***The contest has started! See herefor rules and information!***
Finally! Sorry for the delay in getting this organised guys, I know in the poll a couple of weeks ago the majority said it was preferable to run a mapping contest over July/August and I have been meaning to make an announcement and get the rules sorted for the last couple of weeks, but those weeks have been really all over the place for me and I have not been able to get around to it.
But anyway, here I am at 1am and finally getting this written down!
The recent poll was actually a teaser on what the contest could be, but I don’t know whether anyone drew a line between the two things, so I will explain now!
Our next contest will be:
The Planets of our Solar System
Ok, so I know it isn’t exactly very Star Wars-y, but when you think of all the amazing locations planets moons and asteroids in our very own, very real back yard I think it makes for an excellent theme for an FFA mapping contest and it is also very versatile!
There are 9 planets in our solar system (I don’t care what scientists say, Pluto is still a planet dammit!) plenty of planetoids like Sedna and Eris out beyond Pluto, loads of moons and plenty of asteroids and such as well.
So far the rules that I have thought of are thus: the map must be a known and real body in our solar system or it should be orbiting such (like a Space Station orbiting Neptune, obviously because Neptune isn’t solid and you cant land on it!) and it should be of a small to medium FFA size (for practicality purposes). Other than that you are free to use artistic license. Want an abandoned alien base on Mars (a la mass effect)? How about a cave on the Moon? Or maybe a mining facility on Io? Its up to you!
I will draw up a formal list of rules shortly so we can get the contest started hopefully within a week. In the mean time feel free to ponder over which location you might like to make and maybe draw some concept art or something. You could always show off your artistic skills on our modding forums!
Thanks for your attention, and apologies again for the delay in getting this contest organised!
More info to come soon! Be sure to keep an eye on the news and POTD's for announcements at JKFiles!

Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon!
Nice nozy! Glad to see you getting another one of these going!
Sadly, I will not be participating in this one though, I don't have enough free time. I do have an idea as to what I could do, but I guess it will have to wait for another time.
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon!
I totally want to participate in this, but I'm not sure I'll even finish, might be a nice new challenge to take a break from all the modeling I've done/been doing.
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon!
Well one of the advantages of this type of map i think is that you can make it as sparse or as built up as you like. You might go for a science facility on Titan, or maybe just a barren cratered landscape on Mercury!
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon!
Don't forget the UAC research facility on Mars. Although, if someone makes such a map, next thing you know there'll be bunch of requests for Doom monsters and weapons to go with the map. "OMG this map is soooooo cool can sum one maek me models of all monsters and guns from dum dat be soooooo cool!!!"
