The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! ***The contest has started! See here for rules and information!*** Finally! Sorry for the delay in getting this organised guys, I know in the poll a couple of weeks ago the majority said it was preferable to run a mapping contest over July/August and I have been meaning to make an announcement and get the rules sorted for the last couple of weeks, but those weeks have been really all over the place for me and I have not been able to get around to it. But anyway, here I am at 1am and finally getting this written down! The recent poll was actually a teaser on what the contest could be, but I don’t know whether anyone drew a line between the two things, so I will explain now! Our next contest will be: The Planets of our Solar System Ok, so I know it isn’t exactly very Star Wars-y, but when you think of all the amazing locations planets moons and asteroids in our very own, very real back yard I think it makes for an excellent theme for an FFA mapping contest and it is also very versatile! There are 9 planets in our solar system (I don’t care what scientists say, Pluto is still a planet dammit!) plenty of planetoids like Sedna and Eris out beyond Pluto, loads of moons and plenty of asteroids and such as well. So far the rules that I have thought of are thus: the map must be a known and real body in our solar system or it should be orbiting such (like a Space Station orbiting Neptune, obviously because Neptune isn’t solid and you cant land on it!) and it should be of a small to medium FFA size (for practicality purposes). Other than that you are free to use artistic license. Want an abandoned alien base on Mars (a la mass effect)? How about a cave on the Moon? Or maybe a mining facility on Io? Its up to you! I will draw up a formal list of rules shortly so we can get the contest started hopefully within a week. In the mean time feel free to ponder over which location you might like to make and maybe draw some concept art or something. You could always show off your artistic skills on our modding forums! Thanks for your attention, and apologies again for the delay in getting this contest organised! More info to come soon! Be sure to keep an eye on the news and POTD's for announcements at JKFiles! Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! I'm fully expecting many, many Uranus jokes. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! whats funny about Uranus? |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! What's the difference between the starship Enterprise and a toilet paper? Spoiler: |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Nice nozy! Glad to see you getting another one of these going! Sadly, I will not be participating in this one though, I don't have enough free time. I do have an idea as to what I could do, but I guess it will have to wait for another time. |

Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! I totally want to participate in this, but I'm not sure I'll even finish, might be a nice new challenge to take a break from all the modeling I've done/been doing. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Well one of the advantages of this type of map i think is that you can make it as sparse or as built up as you like. You might go for a science facility on Titan, or maybe just a barren cratered landscape on Mercury! |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Don't forget the UAC research facility on Mars. Although, if someone makes such a map, next thing you know there'll be bunch of requests for Doom monsters and weapons to go with the map. "OMG this map is soooooo cool can sum one maek me models of all monsters and guns from dum dat be soooooo cool!!!" =p |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! I actually have an idea to fit this theme, i may enter this |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! I might possibly enter this. I'll wait until the full rules are posted before I even think of starting, however. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! I didn't even see that. Thank you. |

Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Sorry, could you say that again but a little louder please? :p |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! He said a contestant farted, they received a disqualification. Oh yeah. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Good luck to everyone participating. Also, Nozyspy, your signature size violates the forum guidelines at 167 pixels. You should ban yourself. |

Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! My eye is keenly tuned to 160 pixels due to being a moderator here for so long. I KNOW THE PIXELS. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! do'h FFA kinda tossed my first idea, and small/medium tossed my second idea out the window, lol hmm i'll figure something out, ive just been itching to use all these space textures i got made for a rainy day, i do have another map, tho hmm we'll see what I cook up :p |

Its not technically needed any more, but it looks a little more professional i think. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! I'm about 110% sure that 160 pixels regulation includes text. And since the disclaimer is no longer required, it's part of your sig. |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Who cares about a few measly pixels in Nozy's sig? This is a mapping contest we're talking about! :smokin: |
Re: The next JKFiles Mapping Contest is coming soon! Two questions: Are collaborations allowed (two or more people working jointly on a single entry)? Are the skill categories based solely on Radiant/mapping ability, or do they include other skills like Icarus scripting? |

Whether we do the skill levels depends largely on how many entries we get. If we get 2 entries for beginner, 1 for intermediate and 1 for advanced, there would be no point voting on each skill set individually. In a case like that i would group them all together and then the staff would pick the 3 best/most inventive/most interesting maps to be voted upon. I hope that helps! :) |
