Help getting a pk3 to work Ok i followed the tutorial here, to reskin a jedi model. Finished that no problems, changed the model pathways, no problems, checked it out in modview, no problems, showed up fine. I compiled it using Pakscape to a pk3, placed the pk3 in my base jka folder. start the game up, type in /model mjedi (called it mjedi, not very imaginative) and it shows a kyle model im assuming this means it didnt recognize the skin i tried compiling the pk3 by renaming the .zip file as well Whats the problem here? |

FINALLY!! i did some reading and found my issue apparently i cant drop the folder tree into pakscape i need to create the folders one by one in pakscape then put the skin in apparently im the only one who ever had the problem XD thank you DarthStevenus for a quick response |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work No problem =p I am a bit curious as to why that was giving you problems though. I drop in tons of Inception'd folders and I never have problems with my pk3's. |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work Indeed, I was thinking maybe you were making an NPC file that wasn't working or that you mis-named a folder =p |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work lol that was my problem all the filepaths were right idk maybe someone else will find my issue and it will help them :P |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work .pk3 --> models --> players --> mjedi ... do you have it like that ? |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work I recommend 7-zip for working with pk3s by the way, Pakscape is quite a buggy/crashy application. Since pk3s are zips, you can use any really, just make sure you can add pk3 as a file extension to the app you use. |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work And if I were to do this, (which I'm totally gonna, cause I'm sick of pakscape) how would I add pk3 as a file extension? I'll be using 7zip by the way. |

Re: Help getting a pk3 to work What OS are you using, Inyri? It used to work fine for me when I used XP, but since I got my laptop with Windows 7 it has been pretty unreliable. |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work I use Windows 7. Never had a problem. |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work Had one problem, thats all :D |

Pakscape can't handle Windows-style imported directory paths, if you've ever tried to open Taspir Power Complex v3's pk3 for example, Pakscape will display every file and folder collapsed under the root node, you can't navigate it. When previewing .wav files in Pakscape, it will play them using its in-built wav player. After a few times of playing these wavs the program will crash. When opening files inside the pk3 when in Pakscape, on certain occasions Pakscape will load the program to use it before the file's even been copied to a directory, making programs that load quickly fail to load the file at all. In my opinion, it would be best to used a tried-and-tested archiving tool that's being maintained and kept up-to-date, rather than a one-time tool whose unique feature is to load zip archives that aren't of the default extension. Also, to get 7-zip to load pk3 files, simply make Windows associate pk3 files with 7zFM.exe from the 7-zip program files folder. You can add your own icon (I use a tree icon from C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll) to these pk3 files if you want of course :) |
Re: Help getting a pk3 to work I use WinRAR to open .pk3 files and Pakscape to make them. Is that lazy? |

A) You're not a mapper, ergo it won't crash when you *accidentally* leave Radiant open B) You've never tried to save into JA's base folder while JA is still running (fffu VC) |

Re: Help getting a pk3 to work Pakscape seems to have some problems with allocating memory for moving large files. I've run into several instances where it wouldn't let me copy in or out particular large files due to "insufficient memory" kind of errors, but using anything else worked just fine (which makes me think it is a pakscape issue and not a Windows issue, for example). Also the program has frozen or crashed after opening several image files, which is probably related to something Didz said already. But I like the way the interface looks, the save button, and the create a folder button, so I keep on using it =p. |

And the problem isn't with Radiant or JA, it's PakScape not being able to handle the .pk3s when they're in use by JA or Radiant. In theory, if I wrote a program that used the PK3s, PakScape would crash even still. |
