Help getting a pk3 to work

Ok i followed the tutorial here, to reskin a jedi model.
Finished that no problems, changed the model pathways, no problems,
checked it out in modview, no problems, showed up fine.
I compiled it using Pakscape to a pk3,
placed the pk3 in my base jka folder.
start the game up, type in /model mjedi (called it mjedi, not very imaginative)

and it shows a kyle model
im assuming this means it didnt recognize the skin
i tried compiling the pk3 by renaming the .zip file as well
Whats the problem here?

I'm not sure what you mean here. Do you have a zipped folder inside a pk3? Or did you take a zipped folder and then open it in pakscape and save it again as a pk3?

sry
zipped folder opened in pakscape and saved again as pk3

YES!! FINALLY!!
i did some reading and found my issue

apparently i cant drop the folder tree into pakscape
i need to create the folders one by one in pakscape
then put the skin in

apparently im the only one who ever had the problem XD

thank you DarthStevenus for a quick response

No problem =p I am a bit curious as to why that was giving you problems though. I drop in tons of Inception'd folders and I never have problems with my pk3's.

Indeed, I was thinking maybe you were making an NPC file that wasn't working or that you mis-named a folder =p

I recommend 7-zip for working with pk3s by the way, Pakscape is quite a buggy/crashy application. Since pk3s are zips, you can use any really, just make sure you can add pk3 as a file extension to the app you use.

And if I were to do this, (which I'm totally gonna, cause I'm sick of pakscape) how would I add pk3 as a file extension? I'll be using 7zip by the way.

I've been using pakscape for eight years and it has never crashed on me or been buggy.
