And if I were to do this, (which I'm totally gonna, cause I'm sick of pakscape) how would I add pk3 as a file extension? I'll be using 7zip by the way.
Well first you'll need to show file extensions on files. Make 7-zip create a ZIP archive, not rar nor 7z. Then just rename the .zip extension of your archive to .pk3
Pakscape can't handle Windows-style imported directory paths, if you've ever tried to open Taspir Power Complex v3's pk3 for example, Pakscape will display every file and folder collapsed under the root node, you can't navigate it.
When previewing .wav files in Pakscape, it will play them using its in-built wav player. After a few times of playing these wavs the program will crash.
When opening files inside the pk3 when in Pakscape, on certain occasions Pakscape will load the program to use it before the file's even been copied to a directory, making programs that load quickly fail to load the file at all.
In my opinion, it would be best to used a tried-and-tested archiving tool that's being maintained and kept up-to-date, rather than a one-time tool whose unique feature is to load zip archives that aren't of the default extension.
Also, to get 7-zip to load pk3 files, simply make Windows associate pk3 files with 7zFM.exe from the 7-zip program files folder. You can add your own icon (I use a tree icon from C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll) to these pk3 files if you want of course
I've been using pakscape for eight years and it has never crashed on me or been buggy.
Probably because:
A) You're not a mapper, ergo it won't crash when you *accidentally* leave Radiant open
B) You've never tried to save into JA's base folder while JA is still running (fffu VC)

I'd bet that if my pakscape doesn't crash because I'm not running radiant, and yours does because you are running radiant, maybe it's a problem with radiant.

Pakscape seems to have some problems with allocating memory for moving large files. I've run into several instances where it wouldn't let me copy in or out particular large files due to "insufficient memory" kind of errors, but using anything else worked just fine (which makes me think it is a pakscape issue and not a Windows issue, for example). Also the program has frozen or crashed after opening several image files, which is probably related to something Didz said already.
But I like the way the interface looks, the save button, and the create a folder button, so I keep on using it .
