That error is usually associated with a pirate copy of the game. If you do indeed have an illegal copy of the game you'll be banned. Just shuck out the $20 on steam and get the full series including: DF, JK, JO and JA.
If you have a legit game then I don't know how you got that error.
Last time I checked, we don't ban people who own illegal game copies. We simply don't help them with their problems. That's the forum rule / policy.
And it is indeed possible to get that error with a legal copy of the game. I'm not exactly sure how, but I remember someone with a legal copy of the game (or at least he said he owns legal copy) asking for help with that problem.
It's usually associated with no-CD cracks, which may or may not indicate an illegitimate copy of the game. However Tricorder is right in that there are (very few) ways to receive that error with a completely legitimate copy of the game without using a no-CD crack.

I think I've gotten that error before on custom maps.
It can also be caused by JA's networking buffers somehow becoming corrupt.
I've never heard of such a case in my time.
And if it's happening every time, no matter the circumstances, I'm convinced he's using a crack.
