(Note to the Moderators: I don't know if this topic has a good place here, but this forum can be used to look for a modder, please move it inside "SW:JK3 Off-topic forum" if it doesn't really have to stand here, if you have to remove that thread, please explain the reason by PM because I did a big effort to write it, thanks.)

Dear Jedi Academy Fans,

Do you remember me ?

I am Eltran, the creator of Stalax, the mod that was bringing endless possibilities in Jedi Academy, it wasn't really famous I know, because I published it really too late and there weren't a lot of people interested about using the features the mod could offer. ( YouTube - stalax )

Jedi Academy is really a great game, I can't get rid off that, I fail every time I want to forget it, I always come back...

But the engine is getting older and older, I've tried everything I could do to improve it, but sometimes, I was violating the EULA by trying to make some impossible things like a hook into jasp.exe in order to embed Lua inside it and make a kind of "unofficial sdk for the SP".

A lot of people in the community wanted a new game for the Jedi Knights Serie. Raven Software seems they don't want to support Jedi Academy anymore, and they won't release a new Jedi Knights game.

If I've done some good things into JA as the physics engine implementation, then I feel ready to do it if they still don't want to release it, but I never think I could do it alone...

And this is why I ask for some support from the JA community.

This project doesn't have a name yet, it doesn't have a story, time line, screenplay... either, I am just a coder and everything must have a beginning...

If Raven Software don't want to release a new JK game, then I think WE can do it, I only need resources, models, story, textures, maps, additional coders, then the work will be done.

For the game's script, we could make a next episode after Jedi Academy, but other ideas would be welcomed.

For the engine, I plan to work on the Xreal enhanced Quake 3 Engine, this engine includes a lot of new features, light dynamic lights, vocal chat, you can see some pics there : http://xreal-project.net/?page_id=15

Well, I am looking for...

  • Scenarist : Someone who has a good knowledge about the Star Wars Universe, and can find a title for that project, a story, a time line, main characters,...
  • Modders : For the models, characters & animations (.MD5 file format), textures.
  • Coders (C++ & Lua) : Yes, I never think that I could code alone for that project, there will be always a way to code if you are interested.
  • Mappers : Really needed, of course.
  • GUI Designer : For the User Interface, I might use a new GUI system with windows,...
  • Sounds : For the footsteps, weapons firing stuff,...

As I don't have a team and a title for that project yet, I'm just using a free hosting company for the forum, team management and recruitment.

Concept is good and all but honestly just carry on with the story line. All they really did was just update JK2 with a few new twists but honestly it's still more or less the same in gamplay style and everything. Problem is people would rather play CS Seige fests like MBII.

JK4 won't happen whether people want it to or not. People have, not as much interest these days in open ended game play where players create content above "certain" people dictating what happens next. But still wish yeah the best of luck.

this looks interesting, and would be cool to be involved in this project. Ill offer my help, not too good with mapping and coding etc but my Star wars universe knowledge is quite good so i can try to help with the storyline

Hey, I don't think that this project will be called Jedi Knights 4, for some legal issues, and the storyline not decided yet, I'll find a good one quickly anyway.

I agree, but I think using a better engine would be more than an update
And for the gameplay, I'll try to innovate, I don't think it would be really enjoyable to have a game exactly like JKA with just better graphics, I'm trying to port some contents into the new engine while I'm waiting for interested people to join up.

Well sir, i have adequate knowledge of the star wars universe and would love to be part of the creation of JK4, i know alot about the force powers that the jedi/sith used if you want to add onto the force powers

Would the story follow from the Light Side ending of Jedi Academy? If so, NO MORE JADEN OR ROSH would be a pretty good idea. Kyle is the resident "cool guy" (well, Mace isn't in these games) and Luke is (arguably) the main Star Wars character, having a pivotal role in the film series, so they need to be included.

The whole "Sith-follower-offshoot-group" thing is getting a bit stale, so I'm not sure what enemy could be created to go up against the New Jedi Order. Maybe make up a Spartan/Sith Lord combo - towards the end of Sparta's Peloponnesian domination, they set their sights on building an Empire because they were formidable warriors. Add in force powers and put it on a planetry scale (rather than Greece and the Aegean Sea)?

I don't have the talents to help with something this potentially huge/awesome/(enter "awesome" on thesaurus.com), but I'll definitely stick around to see how it shapes up. Good luck to all involved!

If this project is, in fact started and worked on I might be able to produce a map or five to help you with this project. Although I want some "proof" that it's going to happen and such.
