My next project

Not done yet, but now that I've got the treads on there it's at least presentable. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I'm sure whatever I decide will be amusing.

If you're offering to animate it, sure.

As much as I hate this 3D cartoon, it's a good model, nice work. Any wireframe shots? :>

Are you a modeler?

Obviously o.o Wouldn't ask for that if I wasn't one.

Yeah, I read about your 'modeling exploits' over in the EaW forum.

Yes Inyri, very smart to look at past shit that was how long, 3-4 years ago?
I bet you didn't start any better.

I can make my own stuff now, but if you can't understand that and live only with the past, you should GTFO to russia.

Well, I see it's friendly-happy-fun time here at FileFront...

Inyri: I think an R2 replacement would be a good idea, but does the R2 have any animations? As far as I recall it just moved, nothing else really.

Raven edits don't count as "your own stuff." I save wireframes for people who would actually be able to use them to help me.

Two years ago. ;)

Re: My next project

If you want I can supply you my own works that's not edited Raven part if you want it so much, but that we can do on PM.

And why are you so scared of posting wirefame, hiding behind a reason that you only show it to people who can help you, maybe you stole it and want to hide that fact hmm?

Inyri Forge December 27th, 2008 01:47 PM

Re: My next project

I'm not scared of posting a wireframe, I'm just not going to do it for some crabby model thief who's just trying to sound smart.

There are only two or three people here that can make proper use of a wireframe, and none of them have (seriously) asked for wireframes. Probably because they (a) know it's not finished, (b) know that it's not going to deform, because it's a robot, and (c) know that I'm fully capable of optimizing the mesh myself when I decide to get around to it.

Posting a wireframe right now would not be helpful to anyone, so go play with your stolen EaW models kthx.

Inyri isn't the one who was dishonest enough to steal models from others, she hasn't developed that reputation like you did. Inyri's work is honest and from scratch, without a reputation that insists wireframes are needed to prove she made it.

I challenge you to find any other Wall-E model like this that could be stolen or ported to Jedi Academy. I won't hold my breath.

Inyri Forge December 27th, 2008 01:56 PM

Re: My next project

I'm sure there are other Wall-E models. This one might actually be too detailed to go in JK3; I made it because I wanted to make it, not because I wanted to put it in JK3. Based it on my new Xmas present. <3

Hehe, cute little guy, I just finished watching the movie for the first time on my new Christmas Present!

Ah, very true. But still, the point was that you didn't develop a reputation that causes you to always show wireframes to everyone who asks.

how big is that thing? (the toy)
Anyways any actuall PLANS for the model?

Inyri Forge December 27th, 2008 07:47 PM

Re: My next project

It's about 4.5" tall. As for plans, nothing solid. Haven't really finished the model yet anyway.

AngelisFX December 27th, 2008 11:15 PM

Re: My next project

how in the hell could you steal a wire frame from a picture that is my question and I know somethings about modeling but if some one could steal from a picture and if they are that good, then why bother they may as well make there own. and that model would work in jk3, why don't you shoot at making it look like the movie version, it looks good enough for it just needs the right textures.

Mikouen December 27th, 2008 11:35 PM

Re: My next project

Well, "steal[ing] a wire frame from a picture" would be making your own anyway. Can't drag and drop a picture into 3DS Max and have it fill in the blanks. If you could, I'd be throwing out player models by the truckload. Only way to turn a picture into a model, is to use the picture as a reference and model the... er, model. Redundant sentence, crap. :(

I think Iny's point was, that she's not going to entertain Schrodinger's asking for a wireframe just for the sake of it.

To be honest, I'd be tempted agree. Posting a wireframe around here would be pretty damn useless, virtually all the advanced modellers have left. Best place to find advanced modellers these days would be- well, let's just say, "elsewhere". I'm saying no more because I don't want to be murdered in my sleep.

Trying to get serious crits and feedback on models here is a waste, because in the same amount of time it takes to post materials and wireframes on here, you could post it on a forum dedicated to 3D art and design and get way better advice, because the people over there don't model for low-tech game engines, so they have mad ninja skillz the average modder can't even fantasize over.

Re: My next project

while looking at another persons wireframe, and making your own copy is a good way to learn (prividing the source is awesome), it's considdered cloning, and is generally looked down upon.

second. why would you want wireframes of Wall-E? it's all block shapes (no offence inyri), nothing special, nothing where "super flow" is nececary...

AngelisFX December 28th, 2008 05:33 AM

Re: My next project

Thanks Mikouen and Gir I wouldn't what to copy nothing ,I use 3d max and never learn it to a point that you could use it in such a way as to say using a pic, except as a ref pic of course, and me lol I don't what wireframes of wally I saw the post and was thinking is there a way you could do it ? like I missed something buy using max, and you guys kill me I really like reading some of the post with you guys while drinking my coffee but it can be dangerous some time don't what to choke on it laughing or spray my moniter.

learn to draw. a lot of my refs are drawn by me before i start. especially of heads/faces etc.

sometimes i'll work without orthographic refs, but usually only if i've got a clear image in my head of what i'm making (which usually only happens after i've drawn it a load of times anyway :P)

Re: My next project

Doing something mechanic, or a design (cars), with moving parts... well, it depends ... on a low poly model , go with whatever polies fit, triangles, squares, pentagons whatever...

a high poly on the other hand... basically you can't have corners on a high poly model (diferent smoothing groups dividing the 2 sides of an edge), what you want is a set of polies that bends into a smooth but VERY thin corner (lighting will look perfect there), but to achieve that with meshsmooth, requires quad-modeling, and setting quads on edges of a non-organic model... THAT's where your head is probably gonna "pow"... (and where every quad'll be a reason to hide your mesh)
