Need help locating a model maker

About a year ago I had gotten ahold of a Raziel model that looked damned good. Almost like it was out of the game. There were some touch ups needed and I'd done so. And now I wanted to release my touchups. But I cannot find the person who made the model.

I"ll show you some skins, and maybe someone who knows who it is might point me in the right direction.

Here's some screenshots:

Re: Need help locating a model maker

That would be Almighty_Gir's model, i can recognize his version from the wings. You better get his permission before you do anything.

Re: Need help locating a model maker

I thought it might be his, but wasn't sure. Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: Need help locating a model maker

Just ask him. If it's not his, he won't claim it.

I got the impression that's the whole point of this thread.

Re: Need help locating a model maker

it is his, i rigged it for him a while back, ill let him know on msn, he probably wont let you mess with it, he didnt like how every single kid at pcgamemods raped it and didnt ask.

That's kinda why I made this thread. Because I wanted his permission, and that I would definitely put his credit where it was due.

But if he doesn't want me to, I guess I'll have to go by his wishes. I'm not that much of an asshole. Although, I just thought that I'd do something to honor him. Meh, whatever happens happens.

Where I downloaded it, it didnt come with a readme.

Re: Need help locating a model maker

your textures look really low resolution like theyre photosourced or something, i had the model in the original max file, they looked alot sharper than that originally.

SESSH December 21st, 2008 09:45 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

They are alot clearer actually. My photo taking skills suck.

And those pictures are of the untouched pk3. I made a totally different pk3 with my own textures on it.

But if he wants to know, I think this is the most accruate try at Raziel that I've ever seen.

Is he still going to be making Kain? I read somewhere that he was.

minilogoguy18 December 21st, 2008 11:41 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

na he doesnt make anything for JA anymore unless he finishes up the awesome darth malak model he made that represents the comic version of him all buff like. i made vamp raziel but never got around to UV mapping or texturing it and i thought about making kain but bleh.

Kain_Raziel(XIII), Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Model Pack
Jedi Knight Files - Screenshots for File: Kain_Raziel(XIII)
I personally prefer ^that^ one.

minilogoguy18 December 23rd, 2008 03:19 PM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

ugh, the textures on those models are pretty bad, they also lack model detail in alot of areas, almost looked ripped outta the original soul reaver game.

SESSH December 27th, 2008 12:02 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

The Raziel wasn't. The head is way too low. Although, I do like the wings, even if they aren't like the ones in the game.

Although, on GiR's Raziel, there was a nifty blue team skin that was kinda see through. I'm guessing that's supposed to represent the spectral version of Raziel.

Any word from GiR?

Re: Need help locating a model maker

HOWDY!!!!

it's either mine, or corto's. the screenshots are too small to tell =/

i need you to post the following: load it up in modview, and set it to wireframe mode, so i can see that (never forget my own work).

also, post one of the textures. my raziel was my first ever public release...

minilogoguy18 December 27th, 2008 08:56 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

corto didnt release his, i think only we got it straight from him.

Gir_teh_Almighteh December 27th, 2008 09:32 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

ah fair enough.

from the pics i can see, the mesh looks like mine (i can still see the bad knee rigging... don't sweat it though, it's old like bill cosby). the texture for the most part, also looks like mine, but with some things not right about it.

that's why i've asked for wires/texture sheets, for confirmation.

SESSH December 27th, 2008 12:18 PM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

Ok Gir. As soon as I can fine my copy of modview I'll load it up and take some pics. I'll extract the textures too.

All I'm wanting to do is reskin it a bit. But whatever you decide is ok by me.

SESSH December 27th, 2008 01:06 PM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

For some odd reason, windows wouldnt let me open the texture files. So the best I could do was bring it up in ModView. God that program is picky as hell as to how things need to sit to read glms...

I need to find that model, Gir could you update this models textures? Cause I love it.

Gir_teh_Almighteh December 27th, 2008 11:36 PM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

that's mine. all the texture work is mine too, except the white parts on the hands/feet.

i don't have the model anymore. i thought it was lost in space/time. and while i don't think i'd want to work on THAT model anymore. i'm happy for you to post your work here, accept any critique people give, and then if it's up to scratch, release it.

i might have to revisit my LoK days sometime...

SESSH December 28th, 2008 06:53 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

Just so you know, most the changes I make will just be cosmetic, and to try to make it look kind of like a real character. Right now it just looks like a cartoonish thing without shaders.

Yeah, I'm unsure as to what is up with the hands and feet. I'm going to be looking at reference pictures and shit, and making it look a bit closer to in game SoulReaver2

Have any suggestions GiR?

Re: Need help locating a model maker

I think a chick named stingray made a model just like this one and I have it, it's not to bad at all, she was really good at figure models.

Welcome to post #10.

Gir_teh_Almighteh December 29th, 2008 01:42 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

hmmm the problem you'll have, is that because the engine uses dynamic lighting, putting in your own shading onto the texture won't look right (because it'll look like you have a fixed point light).

you could experiment with specular shaders. they are fun to work with but can take some time.

SESSH December 29th, 2008 03:29 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

Damn. Well then there goes my idea of just making your textures looking a bit more worn with shading. Is that possible with specular shaders?

Also, if you dont mind, I was thinking of basing my skin off of SR2 Raziel. But I can't find any good screenshots of his back angle. If I remember correctly there was some designs on the cloth I wanted to add, but can never find them. I'd play the game, but my PS2 died.

This will be my second attempt at skinning, and since you've given me permission, I want to do it right. Last time I was rushed. This time, I can work on the project without worrying about a deadline.

hell, those sketches are good enough for someone to use to make their own model, *saves image as and runs*.

Re: Need help locating a model maker

I was gonna go for game accurateness, but I suppose you've got a point.

Downloaded a repair CD for my SR2 so maybe I can get screenshots that way. Or maybe off the demo. Who knows.

man though all this talk of legacy of kain makes me want to play the series again, only question is which game to start with?

Gir_teh_Almighteh December 30th, 2008 05:45 PM

if you want to play them chronologically...

i'd hit it like: defiance, blood omen, SR1, SR2.

Thank you so much. I've been looking for a decent back shot of him.

Now I can go ahead, and start doing the artwork.

This project might take a while considering I have two kids to take care of. But other than that, I have nothing but time inbetween.

Also, if a Mod is willing, could they please get rid of that stupid guy's add? The grammar in it is just attrocious.

Pretty Dam good Gir, I didn't know you could draw that good too! We have a lot of the same interest I've been playing guitar for over 26 years and used to draw but quit but was very good at it just kinda lost the passion I guess.

He'll probably post it and let all of you drool a little before telling you it's not going into JK3 (which, based on his last screenshot, you all should already know).

Are you kidding? That thing would fit into JKA no problem! I've done models with 300,000+ pollies before, and there was no bog down in-game. =p
Actually, that last sentence was just a bluff, I haven't been able to juice JKA that much.

Hey GiR or Inyri, do you guys know of a decent program for skinning? I used to use Adobe Photoshop CS2 but unfortunately, I had to re-format, and lost everything. And I'm not sure that Adobe would let me redownload it without a new CD key.

Any suggestions?

Right now I'm blocking out just basic colors in Paint wich is a pain in the ass.

Oh also, GiR the only issue I see with that is the bottom of the ribs for Raziel. I know you're doing your own artisitc version, but they just in my eyes dont come together close enough.

Gir_teh_Almighteh January 1st, 2009 08:01 AM

Re: Need help locating a model maker

you can't download CS2 from adobe anymore anyway. best thing you can do is find somewhere to download it and put in your old key. adobe will renew an old key for you if you don't want to upgrade your software.

If getting Photoshop back is not an option try GIMPshop. It's a hack for GIMP to come as close to the Photoshop interface as possible, to make it easier for people who are used to photoshop to use GIMP. I used it when I was temporarily without photoshop and it worked okay for me.

I think he's just blocking things out.

And I'm hoping he does release this for JA. That would be kewl. Not that I'm asking him to. And it's a great way to fill in this topic whilst I work on textures for the other model.

Awsome work there GiR. I still say the bottom of the ribs should come inward more, but hey, what do I know huh? Hehe.
