Re: Need help locating a model maker well, the way the polypaint tools work, is that it colours the polygons to your selected values (so you can see how high poly he is right now... lol) you bake that information down to a standard 2d UVW map, just like you would do with a normalmap. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Hey, I have one small favor to ask of anyone who has SR2 (Soul Reaver 2 for the uninitiated). Can anyone get left, right, and semi straight on in game pics of Raziel for me? Actually, even if you get the shots from Defiance I wouldnt mind. There isn't that many differences facially in either game really. My SR2 after I found it decided to stop working. And googling pics didnt turn up the shots I was looking for. So far GiR looks awsome. Kinda wondering how you got the texture of the cloak thingy to look that realistic. It was the look I was going for with the one I'm working on. |

Re: Need help locating a model maker Got Photoshop to work. Forgot I had a copy of the install, and unfortunately in the process got rid of all my previous work. But here's what I was able to do in Photoshop after a couple of hours. Re: Need help locating a model maker The shadows on your texture look too sharp. On the in-game model they look softer and wider. Or maybe that's just me. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Yeah, they looked a bit too soft for my touch. And honestly, it's all up for interpretation. But thanks for the interest. I'm gonna test it all in game after I'm done. I'm just wondering though, if it's possible to make a shader for the eyes to make them sort of glow a bit? Or spec map maybe? Or does the GLM need to be recompiled for that? Also wondering if a shader can be used to make the cloak look a bit more dirty. I'm honestly not looking forward to reskinning that. And like it the way it is actually. The rest is gonna be ok I think. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Use texture overlays for the dirt. As for the glow, it's a simple shader (The texture is black where it doesn't glow, anything else where it does glow. The intensity determines the strength of the glow). |

And while I wait to redownload the PK3, I figured I'd work on another related character. Re: Need help locating a model maker I added more texture to the face, and redid the gauntlets. I'm actualy not happy with the characters skin. Most of it looks acruate enough, but the tone is all wrong, and there just doesn't seem to be enough texture to it. I'm not done by far no. But I liked the detail enough. the gaunlets are my own interpretation of the ones he has in game. And I completely redid its texture. If you want I'll post the map. I'm also having issues reskinning the pants. There's a certain color I want them, but I dont know how to draw the shadows and stuff on darker colored clothes without them looking horrific. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Most of the original texture is weak, at best. The seems are plainly clear where they shouldn't be and the flesh is unrealistic. I would skin him completely from scratch if you want something of really high quality because the original textures will hold you back. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Not sure if you're a Legacy of Kain fan or not, but Kain in his later Vampire form - wich is what this model's supposed to be of - has a harder and less human flesh. Granted, I know there's some work to be done, and I'm nowhere near the caliber of you or GiR, but honestly, the detail to the way Kain's skin looks like in game is pretty close. Just the colors are off. Here's a reference pic: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3909/kain6ke0.png I do have a question though, is there any way that from this model, I could get a cleaner UVmap? The way they have it laid out is very hard to skin, and just flat out makes no sense. And some areas are horribly stretched. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Recreate the UVmap yourself in 3dsmax, XSI or milkshape. You've got a very basic and bright texture. Try adding some contrast. |

I want to finish a project within a reasonable amount of time. When I skinned Venom for the Symbiote pack, it took me forever and that wasn't satisfactory of me. |

Re: Need help locating a model maker you could use XSI mod tools 6, its the only one of the free to get player models in, i hosted the installer since its down on the softimage site, check the sticky. oh also, i didnt notice before but if your new to it, theres a ton of free tuts and such on the softimage site under mod tools. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Well normally if this was my model to adjust and such, I'd do that and try to get it in game, and skinned properly. But I'm not sure even if that's allowed so, I'll just go with reskinning, and trying to get the original maker's permission. I can't find their email. It used to be on the pk3's readme I think, but someone deleted it. Quote:

Re: Need help locating a model maker yeah, theres no glm importer out there that preserves bone weights. the only way you wouldnt need to is if you got the original max file or if you at least got the .xsi file that is used in compiling. |
Re: Need help locating a model maker Just a bit of an update. No pics this time due to PC issues. I've gotten Kain done to What I was hoping. I've even done my own textures for the chest and such. Raziel has finally gotten underway again, now that I've gotten everything back up and running correctly. Unfortunately, my PC is having issues with posting pics so I'm gonna have to wait untill new PC arrives to get that done. |
