Question Is there a way to detect hit location with a script?

Is there any possible way to detect where a character is hit using a script? I do know how to set up stuff for WHEN he's hit, but I can't figure out if there's a way to tell WHERE he was hit.

If not, then there goes my live dismemberment mod right out the window. I just want to be able to cut off NPCs' hands without actually killing them, because death by loss of hand is quite retarded. Actually slicing a hand off without killing the NPC is much better than just binding a script to a key that make an NPC's hand just fall off when I think I hit it, no?

If there's any possible way to get it to work like that, please let me know.

Edit: Oops, did I put this in the wrong forum? >_>

If by scripting you mean .cfg scripting, then no. If you mean coding, then yes, I'm sure you can do it.

I mean by coding. I know how do a lot of stuff with IBI files, but I just can't figure out if you can get the hit location of any given NPC that the script is running with or affecting.

There's no way to use Icarus to get the exact location of where a humanoid target is hit . You'd have to make a totally new mod for that.

aw too bad, sounded like a cool idea. the actual coding for the hit location is in g_combat.c (G_GetHitLocation) im pretty sure.

Oh god, please make this mod. I beg of you. I've been waiting for realistic kills for a long time.

Great idea, it just may be possible with some coding.

And the post of the year award goes to...

Well, this stinks. I really want to make this mod, but it seems impossible. If I can't do it with Icarus scripts, then I may as well give up. I was only planning to make this a single-player mod, but the source is only for multi-player (I think). If I could, I would make this mod, but apparantly I can't. Sorry. =(

...you people ARE sure that I can't get at least the name of the limb being hit, right?

Damn...Can't make it for MP instead? It may help you get closer to making it in SP...

Well, dismemberment in MP actually sucks (only one limb at a time, if any), and I don't really know how to do much with the source code (I can't compile it to save my life), which is why I'm not going to even try for it. I want this mod just as much as you do, but it simply isn't happening by me, if at all. =(

The ONLY thing I need is the ability to check what limb was hit, but it appears that's not possible... is it? =\

Well, at least a simple form of this is possible (run a mod script to dismember a limb at will) but it's not really fun that way.

...and please don't give me puppy eyes, they make me even more disappointed in the inability to make this mod. o.o

I'll see what I can do about putting this in the CloneWars mod. Sounds like a neat idea.
