Me and a friend got to talking, and somehow in the topic, we got to talking about Dr. Who and how awsome it would be to fly the Tardis around a map or two.
And I got to thinking. Well..I've been wanting to start another project. And I've wanted to try my hand at modelling. I know it would be something easy to make, but I have no clue as to some aspects of moddeling. Like making the peices you make go together. What I mean is, say I made a side of the tardis, and wanted to connect it to say...the bottom. I have no idea how to do so.
And I have no idea how to do other things like exporting it. I've read alot of the tutorials, but they never put things into laymans terms that I've seen. And I don't know alot of the jargon that goes with Moddeling. I'm sure I could get the model made -- only in peices -- but I would have no idea how to put them together.
So thats where the point of this thread is going. I'm looking for people to help me learn these things, and also for people willing to critique and possibly fix any problems I might have created.
I'm also looking for people who might be able to skin it. I may try my own hand at it, but if anyone can do a better job than me. Well then by all means, I invite you to help.
Any help will go into the readme and a special thanks section of the ReadMe.
I also need GOOD refference pics that prefferaby show most of the sides.
I tried making the Tardis. It's not difficult modeling wise, but since JA's fighter class vehicles don't have in-flight animations, you can't make it spin.
As for your problems, you don't have to connect the parts. As long as one part cuts into the other slightly, the fact that they're separate objects will go unnoticed.

You can't make it roll. The fighter class only has a take-off animation, which is usually played in reverse when the vehicle lands. As for creating a bigger-on-the-inside Tardis, can't be done without teleporters. One thing that computer graphics can't do is making a single object that's bigger on the inside. The folks working on OJP might've given the fighter class in-flight animations, but I wouldn't count on it.

The model root is the one that rolls, it's not an animation.

Well...I learned a bit already. So, it COULD be done, it'd just take a bit of finagling. Wich I have no way of doing. Yet. Well...so far the info is looking good. I like the pic you got, but do you have any from the actual show? Or more precisely from the NEW show? I need to see the detail in painting and such they'd put into it. I'll be starting this project after the weekend. (I'll have more time) So the more input I can get, the better and easier it will be to start this.
Thanks so far for all the help given, and hopefully some of you will be willing to help with this little project. I HOPE to get it out by mid to late March. If all goes well.
Just a bit of an update. I'll be posting pics soon. I've started on the basic shapes on the Tardis. I'm having problems adding the recessed panels on the sides. Can anyone help me with this? And I have a question for the rest of you, should I model the bulb or have someone texture that in with alpha channeling?
