new rpg/ffa map

I wasn't sure of where I should post this, but this seemed to be
the place. So, I was looking for some japanese/chinese styled maps
few days ago, but I didnt find anything I really liked.
So -> I started doing my own version of a japanese map.

It is mostly an rpg map, but it can also be used as a ffa map
..if you want to. It has got a rather small town which is located
in a valley, and a mountain which has got only one little house:D
And I will do my best to build a bakoda, or w/e it is called,
in the town.

This is also my first 'big' project, so I wont promise anything.
I've only made small maps for myself to play with bots and
in LAN. I'm not a pr0 at mapping but im certainly not a '' n00b '' .=p

stikk October 11th, 2007 01:34 AM

Sounds nice. I think there was a Japanese/Chinese map or archery range somewhere on JK3files, but I'm not sure.

If you need any help, ask here, or go to SoulMappers and ask for help.

iswer October 11th, 2007 06:56 AM

Yay! that's my map! =D

Japanese Mod, Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Multiplayer

Green-Flash October 11th, 2007 08:42 AM

Good for making your own rather than suggesting it.

stikk October 11th, 2007 03:51 PM

I thought it was yours, Iswer, I just didn't want to look like an idiot if it wasn't true.

Zefilus October 15th, 2007 05:36 AM

My map will look much different than your's, Iswer, I'll promise.
It isn't a copy of your's. =) Im not doing 'just a village' anymore,
it has got few houses that u can go into and 'live' there
(sinceit's RPG map) restaurant + dojo. And the coolest part
--> rooftops that u can actually duel on. And the treets
are looking fine allready.

Master Ridley October 15th, 2007 07:32 AM

So your going to make an Edo Period City? Nice!

iswer October 15th, 2007 07:36 AM

That sounds sweet. If you'd like help with the details, I could make a model-pack out of all the models I used in my map, so you can use them.
PM me, later on, if you do. (I would like to see some progress before)

Zefilus October 23rd, 2007 02:41 PM

progress

Since Iswer would like to see some progress,
I took a ''teaser screenshot'' in radiant.
I haven't added any textures yet, cuz I haven't done them yet.
So you'll only see CAULK everywhere, except the water-texture
which is from bespin. I thought it would look nice in this map...

So, this is only a part of the map, as you can see (hopefully)
that it has got only the restaurant and something that looks like
a home with a tiny tiny garden at the ''backyard''
+ the bridge ofcourse.

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/9...mappartxn6.png

Im doing this map in small parts. And when I have done all
3 parts I will .. combine? the maps into a one rather big map.
(My native language isn't English, sorry)
And the 3 parts are (Dojo+2 houses meant for the 'rich' ppl + streets)
(Restaurant + few houses + bridge)
(the mountain area with the house & waterfall)
Oh and that pagoda will be done if I have the time for it.
Gotta study like 24/7. But I'll let you guys know when I have made
some progress again.Oh and 'ooone more thing'
---> Im not sure If I need your help Iswer, but I will email you if I do.

Master Ridley October 23rd, 2007 03:58 PM

Looks nice so far. Keep at it though is this going to be the full size of the map or is it going to be much bigger?

Zefilus October 23rd, 2007 08:52 PM

Maybe you should read the text before asking ?
''this is only a part of the map'' so, yeah, it's gonna be much bigger.
Size of... hmm.. Jedi'sHome II JL or JediCouncil gcx.
I'll try my best to avoid the fps lag. But thnx anyway.

I have to make some of the places smaller
than they would be in for example, in a duel map.
A good example of this is the bridge. I can't
make it so big cuz if it is too big, youll get the fps lag
while walking/running on it and turning around.

Where have I heard this 'Edo Period' before?:uhoh:
Anyway.. I'll promise you the map will be much much better than
the other ''japanese'' maps.. no offence.

iswer October 24th, 2007 07:59 AM

That looks quite nice - it's hard to tell without textures tho. I like the bridge alot.
Just don't ruin your brushwork with bad textures later on.

I don't think you should use the bespin water.. I would suggest making a new one. (I don't really like the JKA water shaders..)
You should also detail the "streets" with barrels and stuff when you get into that. Maybe a small boat in the water aswell?

Great job - keep on working! =)

Liquid fire October 24th, 2007 08:27 AM

Yah, it is hard to tell yet if it will be good or not. Good look . Im looking towards it !

Juggernut October 24th, 2007 09:13 AM

i have to compliment you as you are using caulk on every single brush. That is a mistake many mappers do by putting every single piece of art on the "correct" texture without using caulk where it should be caulk. :)

Zefilus October 24th, 2007 10:07 PM

Thanks Iswer. I use caulk on every brush in my maps, keep that in mind. I choose the Caulk texture, and start doing the map, and add textures when everything else is done. Oh and YES I am doing a Edo Period map, now that I remember where I've heard it before. I have been thinking about the details a lot lately. I think I should add some details in the texture, if you know what I mean and add some ''barrels & stuff''. And I was actually thinking about making a boat or 2 in the river.

Zefilus November 1st, 2007 03:20 AM

Umm...

My computer went down. I can't use it atm.
The map is now probably gone with everything else
I had on my comp. So I have to do it all over again
when I get my computer up and running again.

But luckily I had only done the bridge, pagoda, restaurant
and few houses.. =) Rebuilding them wont take much
time, but fixing my computer and installig the windows
might take some time...

I wont give up on this, I'll do tha map on my friends comp.
if I must. Because I really think this map is important for
those who likes to play with swords and for the
Samurai-clans. It doesnt look good if a clan with samurai skins and swords
playes in ffa3 or ffa5 map, does it ?

stikk November 1st, 2007 03:29 AM

No, you're right, it doesn't look too good.

Thanks for keeping us updated, and I forgot to mention, it was smart of you to start with Caulk, as 3 quarts of a maps textures is usually or should usually be Caulk.

iswer November 1st, 2007 05:48 AM

Oh, dang, that's not very nice to hear. I say good luck with the rebuilding (and your computer..), and keep us informed 'bout the progress!

Zefilus November 6th, 2007 10:06 PM

Back

So, my computer works again, AND I still got all the .map files
on my computer. I just had to install Gtk + JKA and some other
programs all over again. So I'll be continuing with the map as usual
and I'll send you some screenshots of the map when I
have added the few textures that I've made.

stikk November 6th, 2007 10:18 PM

Great, can't wait. :)

Zefilus November 7th, 2007 11:08 PM

few questions

About the map, what do you think would be better ??

1.Grey-blue roof texture, with lil dirt OR black roof textures ?
2.Just a bit realistic looking water texture with a nice mirror shader ?
OR a simple water texture with a mirror or some other kind of shader ?
3.Night OR day ? Maybe sunset ? Or dawn ? Other ?

Im asking this because you're the ppl who's gonna play this map,
and I dont want to hear anything like '' oh,. that could have been.... ''
So let your friends know about this too, ok ? Arrigato.Arigato.ArigattoNvm
:deal:

stikk November 7th, 2007 11:49 PM

1. I wouldn't have a clue.

2. The more realistic the better.

3. I would say dawn. It is a lovely time, in all the parts of the world.

iswer November 8th, 2007 06:13 AM

1. Completely depending on what kind of house/roof you are making.
2. Realistic
3. Yes, I would also say dawn, because It's comfortable, and I think it fits with my view of the mapstyle.

Zefilus November 30th, 2007 05:44 AM

Progress.

I've been very busy lately, mostly because of school,
but every now and then I've been working on the map.
I still havent added any textures, though I have done
few. I also have no new screenshots for you people.
Just wanted to say that I've made some progress again
but this stupid FRAPS is not working :o.

I've also changed the look of the map, just a bit.
Would it be nice to have some sort of a castle in the map ?
Like Edo Castle perhaps ?:smokin: I wouldn't make it
a building you could enter, cuz then it would give huge FPS lag.
Just an Idea... reply please.

-=Itai'shi=- November 30th, 2007 06:46 AM

Ooh....I like the sound of that...

If yo uneed any references, just 'Google' any Onimusha games for some castle scenes. There's a couple of great references in the games

iswer November 30th, 2007 06:49 AM

I would like a good looking town rather than a castle.. actually.

I don't really think it matters what we think. Do what you feel like.
