Mix-'n'-match SP species

If any modders wish to give permission to the public to create a SP species with parts of their model/skin please post. Also, if anyone wishes to tackle this project please post. All material used will be given due credit to the author, creator, and whoever gets it able to be used in this mod. I would appreciate it if I were given credit for the concept. An example of the final product (speculative) is a mandalorian helmet, clone commando torso, and gievous's legs. Other combinations should be possible. Now I just need you to bite to see if people will accept this.

Do you know how complicated and time consuming that would be?

Darth Masiaka May 7th, 2007 02:40 AM

I was thinking of a long term project done in installments. I am not smart enough to mod, though; I do not appreciate the difficulty I guess. I just assumed whoever volunteers would get a few species done, submit them, and add something new in their free time. If this is too hard then I'll repeal it.

There are three or four people on this forum that post regularly who have the tools to do a mod like that. I don't know that any of them would want to actually do it, though.

It's a lot of re-rigging models, which is, by far, the most boring thing you have to do when modeling. It's boring and complex; bad combination.

You also have to worry about parts of the models not lining up correctly, leaving gaps or horrible clipping in several areas.

OK, I see. If one of those people Lady Forge is talking about wishes to do this, I put the idea out there. Otherwise I'll see what is posted and let the thread quietly die. I just thought it was a new idea. Now I know why no one else has done it. Thank you Lady Forge and Snr. Carlos for taking the time to show me this. Maybe if someone explained it well I could learn to mod and do this myself. If someone could point me to a good tutorial...

Psyk0 has a video tutorial for character rigging on his site, XSI Mod Tool is free and it can export rigged models without issues and Minilogoguy made a JKA skeleton in .xsi format. I advise to practice a bit before getting down to business, both to familiarise yourself with the program and to get a better understanding of what you're up against.

Where do I start? I have no experience and everytime I try to start something a problem crops up.

Then this is the forum where you ask for help, if help cannot be found in the tutorials, that is.

Thank you for that, seriously, but that was the point of this thread in the first place. No offense.

I have an idea for my first item for the species. Is it against the rules to ask someone for their model on their own thread; before the whole thing is finished? Is it bad tact? Please let me know before I make an a** of myself.

Thank you very much, I am so glad. I didn't think that I could wait if that wasn't the case.

Jose Carlos May 7th, 2007 07:05 PM

I'm sure no modder would mind if you asked them before their work is finished. Asking before using someone else's work for your own mod is usually enough to warrant a positive answer.

I have permission to use Darth Maul's prosthetic legs! Now all I need is to ask Marz for his clones ultima textures since I'll use to game's Boba Fett model for the head.
