Advanced chat script

I've seen a nice chat script sometime ago ...like the Y messagemode1 button .. but it already auto uses a different colour and can have preset text already ... i'll use the one i saw as an example:
Nick: * text * - just press the button.. type the text.. it auto writes your text in the scripted colour surrounded by the preset asterisks ..

I tried, but couldn't create such a script/bind .. tried stuff like
/bind x "messagemode1; wait 5; ^1 ;"
but it just doesn't work that way .. tricky stuff
anyone got a clue?

what part of my post was unclear? i know how the basic scripting is done . You obviously haven't tried scripting something like that ...
With my simple thinking, i tried stuff like bind h "messagemode; say *" .. it says the asterisk first, and opens messagemode later.. i need to put that asterisk INSIDE the messagemode .. not to mention i need to use colours o.O

Oh, sorry I get you now.. Well it's the asterisk I'm stuggling with here, I don't know how it could be made to wtite the asterisk without sending it.
