Hoverboard? It occured to me the other day that a hoverboard might make a really cool vehicle. I was thinking of overwriting the swoop with various designs of hoverboards, becuase I think it would make t2_trip in SP hilarious. :p http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/9585/hovergf4.jpg Naturally I'm going to increase the size of the hoverboard, and the animations still need to be tweaked, but in practice it works like it's supposed to. Any thoughts? (It's untextured, before anyone asks.) |

Re: Hoverboard? Sweet idea. I know I'm a little biased, but what about a design similar to the hoverboards in Dirge of Cerberus. Not like it has to be, but it would give it some style, unless you are shooting for the back to the future look. I can post some screens if you like. |

Re: Hoverboard? I can't imagine a hoverboard being anywhere as near as loud as a swoop, some mebbe some quiet noise would work... As for the attack animations, I can't say I care a whole lot for them. If the target is gonna be on the ground, that could go right over their head. Mebbe if you had a swing like the animation called 'Both_a4_br_tl' for the right side and 'Both_a4_bl_tr' for the left? |

Well, I dont know about styles of boards, maybe something that looks like a surfboard for one of them, or a board that was made up of either two hexagons(or octagons) that had a narrower strectch of board connecting the two... but I think it would be nice if the stance on the vehicle had the user leaning into the front of the board instead of on the back of it. I think it would give more of the feeling that the user was his weight around in order to navigate the board instead of just looking like he is going for a ride that he has no control over... One foot in front of the other, leaning towards the front foot in about a 45º angle. Shoulders back, arms outstreched behind him. The front calf perpindicular to the ground, front foot planted, back foot arched on its toes, your face forward. Your shoulders should be in line with your front knee and your front foot, with your back foot 3 or 4 feet behind the first. I hope that helps explain what I mean. I looked for a few pictures, and the closest I found is of the silver surfer (whose board would also make a really hoverboard) but its not exact. Spoiler: Anyway, hope that helps... EDIT: If you plan on making the octagonal sort of board, I think it would need a different stance than listed above. For a board like that, I would have it so that the user was standing "sideways" In which (s)he is looking over the her/his shoulder to see forward. The feet would be apart wider than shoulder length, the forward knee bent over the front foot, facing forward, and having the front arm outstreched toward the destination. Of course, if you did this, you would have the difficulty of either only being able to fight on one side, or you would have to add a move where the board could shift around quickly so that your leading foot swiches, and you can fight on the other side. But I dont know if thats possible at all... |

Re: Hoverboard? i was achully thinking about doing this exact thing for practice with uvmaping that and to see if i could get my model in game as a vehicle. ok it could still due to be bigger if its snowboard like than for someone around 5' 8" the board would need to be from 155-160 cm (trick it sould come roughly to the models nose) how about a chrome one like the silver surfer's o and for realism maby add some bindings for the feet. also i would love to skin this |

For my work with the textures, below is what I have so far: http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/5209/hovertexwa4.jpg I stopped working on it last night... because it was 2am... so it's not done, but I though I'd let you guys see the direction I was going with it. The bottom looks similar, but has two hover pads. I wouldn't worry a whole lot about detail on the bottom of the board since you won't see it much (if ever, unless I increase the hover height significantly). Re: Hoverboard? No, I don't think it's possible in MP. When riding on a swoop, if there is another person on a swoop riding next to you, hold down jump and the strafe key that moves you in their direction (helps to start holding down strafe before jump). If you come whithin range of them, you'll jump off your swoop, land on their shoulders, kick'em off, and start riding the swoop you just jumped on. |
Re: Hoverboard? Well I assume it's possible, although I may have overwritten the animation for it. I still need to consolidate the anims anyway, though. As it is, I accidentally copied over some of the tauntaun rider anims. :p |

EDIT EDIT: I don't think hijacking would work, since the animations are for sitting on a mount (like a swoop or taun taun), not for standing on a board. It may work, but would look very weird. |

Re: Hoverboard? Oh, there's nothing dynamic about that glow, it's just a simple photoshop blending option if I'm not mistaken, or it's an airbrushed effect. Cool idea though, making a skin for it this early in the game. |

Re: Hoverboard? I think that stance looks really good. I dont know if this is possible, but is there a way to center his feet on the board and still have the board fly straight? I think it would look better if his feet were, well on the board you are using in that pic, there are some darker gray areas that I think is where his feet should be located... |
Re: Hoverboard? I'd have to rotate the driver tag. I could do it, but it would slightly alter the combat anims (they'd be off-kilter slightly). I can try it and see how it looks. I need to move the tag up a bit anyway. |
