[WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Original works:

Solid Snake MGS1, Liquid Snake, Psycho Mantis, Revolver Ocelot MGS1, Sniper Wolf, Revolver Ocelot MGS3, EVA, The Boss

Fully credited works by others:

Gray Fox, Raiden, Solid Snake MGS2, (Cyborg Ninja MGS2 in the future)

Planned in the future:

Vulcan Raven, Shalashaska (maybe), Cyborg Ninja MGS2, Naked Snake (if I have time)

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7...packya5.th.jpg

My question is, anybody have any other ideas for people to put into this? The general idea is to have one, single gigantic definitive MGS pack.

Also, I need help with locating sounds for everything. Currently I've got sounds for Snake, Liquid, Mantis, Ocelot, Raven, Ninja and Wolf. I still need sounds for Raiden, OcelotMGS3, EVA, The Boss, and Naked Snake.

So, if someone can find sounds/voiceclips for me of those characters, that would be great.

Oh, and opinions/advice on the skins, too.

My, Olga (and Meryl), what long biceps you have!

Other than the odd biceps, they're looking good. For JKA that is.

Don't forget about Solidus Snake

There's also The Fear, The Fury, The Pain, The End, The Sorrow, and Colonel Volgin (Thunderbolt),

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Update: College work has been ramping up. I recently sat down and forced my roomie to play Twin Snakes. He lamented the lack of Halo-style run-and-gun, but grew to like it.

When watching the Mantis battle, I realized that my version only vaguely resembles the character, instead of out-and-out representing him. So, I went over and completely re-hauled him from the ground up.

There's one minor error, namely, Mantis' barcode is only on the left side of his head, but the head texture is mirrored, so this Mantis has it on both.

Old Mantis:

New Mantis:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5...snewoj2.th.jpg

Edit: Another update! With the help of Selek, I de-bloodified Graves' Meryl, and IMHO it looks very nice. All credits to him on this one.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Okay, enough is enough. This has gone on for too long, and it's gotten kind of out of control. My original aim was a comprehensive MGS1 pack. The 2 & 3's might be part of a later pack, but for THIS pack, I just want to get it out the door at this point.

I'm currently searching fora good model to skin Vulcan Raven off of. I need a barechested, bald man. No, he cannot be a bald man in a jacket, because skinning skin over modelled cloth looks crappy. So Hitman is out. I'm looking around, but haven't found very many promising leads. Any ideas, people? Or any barechested models whose hair can be turned off?

Official MGS1 Pack Progress:

Solid Snake: Just about finished with the face textures. Sounds will be from Graves' version. 95% complete.

Update: My Solid Snake, with recessed jawline shadow as per Crix's suggestion, side-by-side with the original face that the author of the model did.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/839...dnewyt1.th.jpg

Update B: Found Graves' Snake v2, and slapped my textures on that. On the left of Graves' model with my textures. On the right is Darth Kitty's model with my textures.

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/2...nalexx8.th.jpg

Personally, I like Kitty's much better than Graves'. The face is simply far too wide.

Liquid Snake: Need to work on the face more. Currently doesn't look much like him. Sounds ripped from a Twin Snakes trailer. 80% complete.

Update: Direct texture swap from Snake (since they ARE clones), slight color adjustment to fit skintone.

http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/1...facewl8.th.jpg

Otacon: Textures are finished. Need sounds. 90% complete.

Meryl: Textures done, sounds from Graves. 100% complete.

Cyborg Ninja: 100% complete.

Sniper Wolf: 90% complete. Need to find one good line for her taunt, do a final check of her jacket.
Update: Jacket and body are finished, need to go over her face.

Psycho Mantis: 100% complete. Can't decide whether to go with MGS1 sounds or Twin Snakes sounds.

Revolver Ocelot: 95% complete. Need to make sure I'm satisfied with the face. Sounds are complete, ripped from Twin Snakes trailer.
Update: New face for Ocelot.

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/8...elotdl7.th.jpg

Vulcan Raven: 10% complete. Got the base textures down, I think. Need to find a decent model. Sounds are nowhere near complete, I have no idea where to get some. I could try ripping from the trailer again, but there's a lot of background music.

Solid Snake MGS2 and Raiden will not be included in the pack, nor will EVA, Major Ocelot, Shalashaska, or The Boss. Those will all come later.

Perhaps you could re-skin the new barret skin for your Vulcan Raven? Which goes off the punisher model. Maybe there would be a way around the hair. if not, Id have to say, find a modeler. Looks great so far.

Sorry, couldnt get to my post withing 30 mins to edit. I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!

I found how to rip sound off my psx games. I can get you your Vulcan Raven Sounds!

Do you want them from the cutscenes, or would you rather I edit them myself and give them to you already ready to go?

EDIT: I can also get you sounds from anyone in MGS1. So if you are unhappy with any of your sounds, or you want a specific line of speech, let me know.

Tyrael64 September 23rd, 2006 11:43 AM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

FANTASTIC news, Doc! You have NO idea how much help that is for me. I've been having to make do with crappy Twin Snakes sounds ripped from trailers with music in the background.

I'll need as many sounds as you can get me for Mantis, Otacon, Raven, and Wolf. Liquid and Ninja would be nice, but aren't strictly necessary as I already have decent-enough sounds for them.

Edit: The raw cutscene audio would be great, if they're in wav format. Then I can just snip to my heart's content to get what I need.

-Samurai- September 23rd, 2006 12:10 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Only problem is, there will be slight bg music in it. But when edited, it may not be noticable. Also, with all your skins, .wav will make for a decent sized file. I have a program to convert wav into mp3 in just a few seconds. It will probably take untill Monday for me to have the files ready for you, as I play CoD UO on the weekends with a friend. So, let me know if you need the program to convert .wav to mp3.

Also: If you are going to make bots, the audio files will let you find nice things for bots to say when they kill you/get killed.

I did start on Vulcan Ravens sounds just incase, I will include them for you to either keep, or scrap. Your decision.

I can get you the audio from every conversation that takes place in the game. Not to mention small sounds(ie snake being hurt, vulcan being hurt, mantis being hurt, and "I can read your mind". And my personal favorite: "Its just a box"..not that you need that.). But they play back very fast and I have to manually slow them down so if you want some of them, they will be harder and take alittle more time.(they arent exactly organized either).

When I have everything you need, I will pm you with the link and pass to the .zip file(wouldnt want anyone else getting their hands on these before you do would we?).

Glad I could help.

-Samurai- September 23rd, 2006 04:24 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Ok, after going through over 4500+ audio files, ending up with 321 useful sound files for you to sort through(have fun! Dont worry, I organized them), and over 3 hours of searching, I am done! I will zip them, probably into two seperate .zips, and pm you with the url and password.

Sorry for triple post, missed my 30 min time limit again! Ok, Im all done and need to upload the files. Problem is, for some reason they will all take 1 hour and 8 mins. So I split them up into 9 smaller files. Still 1 hour 8 mins EACH!! Something must be wrong so I'll try again tomorrow.

I seem to be having a problem uploading them. Everything is organized and ready for you, but filefront wont take them. They start with 13-15 minutes left to upload. Then after an hour and a half, they still havent made any progress. Still 13-15 minutes. I'd like to e-mail them to you in 9 files if possible.

Maybe you could try a filesending site like megaupload or rapidshare? That might be a bit easier for you, depending on the size of the file(s)...

Im really good at missing my 30 minute editing window, it seems. HERE ARE YOUR SOUNDS!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!

Click the names to download them. Let me know when you have them. After that, they will be removed. No password is on them, as Filefront does not allow it, and who am I to break their rules?

I seriously hope you're not on a 56K....

Solid Snake
Otacon
Meryl
Liquid Snake
Sniper Wolf
Vulcan Raven
Revolver Ocelot
Stealth Ninja
Psycho Mantis

Your looking at about 2 hours of download time each if you're on 56K...
Sorry it took soo long..

Tyrael64 September 26th, 2006 11:21 PM

Currently downloading them all, took a look at Ocelot and Snake as they finished first. They all seem to be from in-game sounds, that is, things that they say during gameplay. Were you not able to record their cinematic lines? I was a bit surprised at the omission of Ocelot's "A gun's power isn't in its muzzle velocity..." and "I love to reload during a battle."

Some more of them finished. Some of Meryl's sounds are incorrectly lumped in with Wolf's sounds. I'm really surprised by some of the Ocelot and Ninja sounds, some of which I don't remember ever hearing in the game.

Got them all. Thanks a bunch!

-Samurai- September 27th, 2006 04:11 AM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Sorry bout Sniper Wolfs sounds, I thought they were different. Guess I was wrong.. I didnt include any of Otacons cinematic sounds because there were ALOT. If you know of anything specific that you want, or just want some random ones, let me know. Or if there is anything else you need/want, let me know.

Everything I have I took right off the disks. They are crammed into 2 files on the disks. Cinematic lines, ingame lines and "extras". Things like when Psycho Mantis "reads your mind"(or memory card, rather). Lines such as "I see you like to play Castlevania", or "I see you like fightnig games. There are about 3000 in the cinematic, and about 4100 in the ingame sounds. Mosty of them being the Genome Soldiers.

Oddly enough, I didnt find those Ocelot sounds..I was thinking the same thing, though. I think today, I'll go through them again and give you some Otacon cinematics and look for those classic Ocelot sounds..

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

This whole thing is a veritable treasure trove, I tell you. :P I've been playing Twin Snakes for so long that I had almost forgotten what the old voices of Mantis and Ninja were like. IMHO, the new ones are a lot more sinister, which fits well for their positions in the game (Mantis as an evil boss man, and Ninja as a kickass soldier-slaughterer), but I'd almost forgotten that Mantis was Russian! :o Quite a few of Liquid's lines seem to be left out, as well.

TBH, in the end I'll probably end up using a mixture of sounds from original and TS. Still, this is a TREMENDOUS help.

-Samurai- September 27th, 2006 09:40 AM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Well if you decide you need more, just let me know. Im the only person I know with the original disks from psx, and I've never played Twin Snakes.

Sorry for leaving things out. Everything was grouped together and with the speeds being doubled, it was a tad hard to tell what was what. I thought I grabbed almost everything, but it has been soo long since I've played that game that I forgot most of the diologue and the (should be)famous lines. Perhaps I will play through it again soon....

Here you go.

http://files.filefront.com/PSound133.../fileinfo.html

The program pretty much explains its self. But if you need help I think there is a readmy and a help file. You can also ask me.

Hope I helped.

I am definately downloading your skin pack when are done. I thought of doing a "remake" of a few scenes using your skins and some conversations from MGS, but that kind of movie would be hard and I dont have the talent...

Tyrael64 September 28th, 2006 02:32 AM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

I checked both readme and help file, and didn't find the answer to the question I had. I inseted the MGS disc into my CD-ROm drive, then his File>Scan CD-ROM. It returned only four entries, three from Otacon and one from Baker. What happened to everything else?

The help file talks about DEMO.DAT, VOX.DAT and STAGE.DIR, but when I tried Scan File and navigated to the drive with MGS in it, Windows asked me to insert the CD-ROM again. -_-

-Samurai- September 28th, 2006 08:18 AM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Do you have a DVD rom? If so, try putting the disk in that drive. DVD roms/burners can ready other types of data that CD roms cant(besides the obvious dvds).

I've been working a lot with Vulcan Raven, tweaking Wolf a bit, and of course getting sounds. I've almost got TOO many sounds, now. :)

I'm having a really tough time getting a decent Raven model. This is what I have so far.

Raven also needs darker skin. From what I remember, his skin had more of a brownish color to it. Also, Wolf's jacket could use a bit more detailing to it...
