They probably would, too, if she arched her back. :P But hey, don't blame me, blame the Konami costume designer

I didn't think the PS1 version was that... exposed.. but then, I haven't played it in a long time. Anyway, good work so far, considering you don't have models made specifically for those characters :)

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Did some tweaks to faces all round. Changed the stitches on Mantis' mouth, tweaked Snake's face a tad, swapped the new Snake textures onto Liquid, upped the contrast on Ocelot and Otacon, and gave Otacon some stubble.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

I'd appreciate that, yes. Naked Snake, The Boss, EVA and Ocelot are what I need for their eventual release. None of them will be released in the upcoming pack, but I think I might take a game-by-game approach with different packs.

Current state of the pack. I took an extra 15 minutes and spiffed it all up to look nice.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8...packna9.th.jpg

Currently, these skins resemble the characters very strongly. However, most of them aren't yet at the point where they ARE the character. It's all in the faces, methinks.

Updates! added Cyborg Ninja (MGS, TTS, bonus), updated Snake face, added Sneaking Suit Meryl, Tuxedo Snake, updated Raven with an ammo belt, and put new Snake face on Liquid.

Love the Meryl one, but the faces of the Snakes looks less like them than ever to me, to be honest. That, and the tux looks too flat. :p

Blued the suit slightly, added seams to the front and sides of the legs, changed the cut of the bottom of the jacket, added his bandanna and holster.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

The only thing that looks off to me is Ocelot and Otacon. From what I remember they both had a little more hair than what they're given. Ocelot at least had hair going to about his shoulders. Otacon doesn't look like he has enough hair.

Tyrael64 November 30th, 2006 04:22 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Limitations of the model, I'm afraid. Otacon's hair was a lot more scraggly, but since it's not part of the model, there's not much I can do about it. So, now we have a combed Otacon. :(

Concerning Ocelot, I contacted Darth Kitty, author of the Snake model I'm using, and he has an Ocelot in the works. I'm trying to get it from him and include it in the pack as its official debut.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Mmmm, sounds great! One thing that is really needed is a better model for Raven... That sharp shoulder scares me... :bawl:

Tyrael64 November 30th, 2006 09:26 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Unfortunately, after weeks of searching, that was the ONLY bald, barechested model I could find. Period. So it's that or nothing, I'm afraid.

Ryojin November 30th, 2006 10:44 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Hmmm... Well... I know that some models out there have the option of removing the hair, and still having a normal looking (but bald) head. One example of this is Hap's Anakin, I believe. Have you tried looking around in surfaces in modview or somethin for a barechested model with hair?

I just really dislike those shoulders. XD

BTW, I still think that the Sneaking Suit Meryl is the best one of the bunch. :p

Tyrael64 November 30th, 2006 11:47 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Yeah, I heavily dislike the shoulders, too. And the weighting on his biceps is frankly atrocious. Yes, I've looked around, and while there are a few models out there that can have their hair turned off, they're usually clothed in some manner, with the clothes modelled-on. Bugger. And of the barechested models I looked at, none of them were bald or could be skinned to be bald. Plus, Raven himself is a big, beefy fellow. Not any old bald/bare model will do.

By the way, I've been compiling everything together and doing last-minute checkups when I realized that Ocelot's chest was 100% photosourced. So, I went and re-did it from the ground up.

Old Ocelot: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/5691/ocelot2jw0.th.jpg
New Ocelot: http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7...elotwo3.th.jpg

Think I might try to do something to his pants, or not. Not sure. Maybe brighten it up. Or darken the vest to match the rest of the skin.

Also, I'm quite proud of Sneaking Suit Meryl. She looks damn sexy in that outfit. :P

By the way, in the course of checking things over, I suddenly remembered that Raven's textures weren't made by me. I found them on a Google Images search, if I recall. I did a bit of sleuthing and discovered the original author and model. It's not for JA, but the textures are publically available on Mr. Josh Singh's website.

http://www.joshsingh.net/Archive.html

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/5...ete5iv7.th.jpg

I've sent him an email, politely requesting usage of the textures. Here's hoping he won't veto it.

By the way, Ryojin, what's the official policy for mystery models? The model for Ocelot and Otacon was taken from a RP skin I downloaded off our personal forums, called Jacev3. PCGM is down, so I can't look around for it there. Can't find it on JK3Files. And no readme was provided. So, I can't provide the author credit for the life of me. Would I still be required to provide a readme if it doesn't exist in the first place?

Ryojin December 1st, 2006 12:13 AM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Well, the rules are that you have to have the readme for the original work. If you dont have that readme, and the site it was hosted on went down, you just might be screwed there. But, I would suggest talking to Inyri or someone about it, as they are more likely to have a correct answer.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Does Inyri respond to PMs? If so, what is her forum account?

Side note, Snake's face was half-based off of Twin Snakes, half off of his codec portrait. However, it suddenly strikes me that I might have gone overboard on the facial creases. They look less like creases and more like smudges, all of a sudden.

Dang, Snake's face has been the single biggest headache of the entire pack. Aaaaargh. Back to the drawing board.

Inyri Forge.

You're better off catching her on MSN. She's on a boycott from here, for reasons I'm not allowed to comment on thanks to the non-disclosure agreement.

um, no offence but those look like crap. Maybe you should get some pics of how ocelot, solidus, solid snake, liquid snake, etc actually look like. Your face detail is horrible and the faces look nothing like what they are actually supposed to look, Just a suggestion.

I went over and smoothed the creases in his face out. This means that the release date is pushed back a tad while I work on getting Snake's face right (again).

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

For a mystery model, just send it. If the author recognizes it, and requests credit, it will have to be given. But I would try to find the model. Maybe ask the person who reskinned the model?

Oh, and my biggest concern about the pack is whether you got permission to reskin those models (I know graves generally wants people to ask first. It says so in his readmes.)

Oh, and catch Inyri at FileFreak.

Most of the skins look pretty well. I envy you! I don't know about mystery models, but I think you should listen to Datalord.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Noble_Kraven: Sorry, there aren't that many good trenchcoat models out there. I could try to use the same model as Ocelot for him, but the hair is all wrong.

Hitsu: Let's see you come up with something yourself before trying to flame someone else, mkay?

Datalord: Thanks for chiming in with that clarification. Also, I sent the creator of the Raven textures a formal request to use them, but I haven't gotten a reply for over a week. I'm sure this has happened before to others. What's the proper procedure for this? Do I simply leave Raven out of the pack? Or do I simply use different textures?

Anakin992: Thanks for the support.

Even though it wasnt directed at me, I'd like to say something on that... If you are unable to recieve the permissions needed, while required to have them, instead of just leaving the skin out, just use different textures. When I made version 5 of my personal skin, I used textures from another model which required permission. I asked for it, waited a day or so, and decided not to wait any more, and redid the thing myself, which happened to be the face. Thus, RyojinV6 was created and put onto jk3files.

My point: Even if you cant use those textures, dont give up, just use something different. :p

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Ah, okay, thanks. I'll get started on making new Raven textures.

Tyrael64 December 15th, 2006 11:37 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Update. Tweaked Snake's face a tad: added eyesocket shadows, lessened the shadow under his eyes. Then, I went back and re-tooled his outfit. New torso, new pads, new back, new harness straps on his back, pelvis, elbows and knees, new kneepads, completely reskinned the ammo boxes from scratch, and changed the shadow of the pauldron on his shoulder and bicep.

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/7928/snakers0.th.jpg

Then if course I had to go back and apply all those changes to Sneaking Suit Meryl.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Looks better, but I have an idea... You might wanna try removing the shadow on his lower cheeks a bit so that his face doesnt look quite as round and fat... Other than that possible suggestion, I think it looks pretty damn good.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

I have a problem with Snakes face. It looks like he has two different skin tones, the neck and face arnt the same color. Other than that, it looks great.

Tyrael64 December 21st, 2006 04:32 PM

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Actually, his face and neck are precisely the same color, according to the texture. Unfortunately, the texture is very, very, very badly warped around the jawline area.

Your idea worked like a charm, Ryojin. Thanks. It also had the side effect of making the face and jawline and neck blend very well together.

Re: [WIP] - Metal Gear Solid series pack

Hello, everyone. Sorry for the massive delay.

No, it's not been released, I've just gotten bogged down in college work. I've been working on finishing touches, namely, re-creating Raven's textures, re-creating the selection icons, obtaining a readme I needed, and creating promotional final-version screenshots. I've got the readme, and the icons shouldn't take long. The main holdup is the screenshots: I'm trying to get Twin Snakes screenshots, and then edit out the game's models and place my models in their place, so it looks like they're actually in Twin Snakes. It's quite tricky, but it looks oh-so-cool. After I finish those sometime this week (hopefully), I can whip up the icons and glance over Raven. After that, it should be good to go. :)

Sorry for the huge delay, all. Not long to wait now.

To whet your appetites:
