Mod & Skin Downloading? not understanding

I, for the life of me, cant figure out how to make use of a new skin or model that I download. I have downloaded a vader and a yoda model, both were on the top Jedi Knight Files Top 20 Downloads this Week at http://jediknight2.filefront.com/. I also downloaded a Anakin and Maul skin. I followed the directions to a tee. I downloaded everything from the wwebsite and extracteed al the files to the base folder like the instructions said. For the models igo to put the cheat in and nothing happens. for the skins there is no option available in the profile section. Am i looking in the right option area? I downloaded JA+and that is working but the skins and maps are not.

also, i use xfire. wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Xfire shouldn't have anything to do with this, because i also use xfire to start up JKA. Make sure that you have the.pk3 files in the base folder, not in a folder titled the name or models.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you've extracted everything out of the pk3 files you downloaded. You dont need to do this. Evrytime you download a mod of almost any knid, it comes in a pk3 file. DONT EXTRACT ANYTHING OUT OF THE PK3 FILES!!! Just put the pk3 files in your base folder and they will work ingame.

1. Put .PK3 in Base
2. Patch your game with the patch that's also in top downloads now I think... 1.01 or something or 1.1 whatever... The JA Patch... Than it should work

or you could put them in a Mod Folders Like I do. I have very few things in my base and I have tons of Mod Folders...but don't worry about that just yet.
...still need to patch up the game first though.

Im officially the dumbest NOOB ever. I was downloading everthing into the base folder on the D drive. WHAT AN IDIOT I AM!!!!!!!!!!

For the record im a NOOB to computers as well.
