Glass.

Hm, I'm wondering about glass on weapon models. I want to make the DH-17 and I haven't skinned it yet, but I put in flipped normals for the glass section. Then just texture it with a semi transparent texture? Would that give a glass effect? Here's the model anyways...

There's glass on a DH17? o.O

Anyway, the easiest way to do this would be to make the glass semi-transparent, as you mentioned, then to put an env map over the top to make it look reflective. As for how to make it semi-transparent without affecting the rest of it, that was never one of my strong points ;).

You could make that glass bit an entirely diffrent image file then make a shader to make it transparent.

That model keeps getting sexier and sexier.

Only way? Im not against shaders but its good to know. Like... how do you manipulate alpha channels? o.o How do alpha channels work...?

Re: Glass.

Alpha channels work if you set them to in a... you guessed it... shader. Getting them to work just the way you want can be tricky, though. I'd say study how Raven has done it in their assets, then check the shader tutorials, then you should be able to come up with something that works for you.

Re: Glass.

But alpha channels will make it look like its not there. You want a glass texture with a shader to make it transparant. Like ragnos.
