Re: minimization

Why would you want to do it at a library? Libraries are quiet places to study and read, not play games. I'm sure they don't appreciate you bringing games in, either. If you absolutely HAVE to do it, I strongly suggest a different location. Besides, installing it on their network drive is probably illegal.

Instead of taking up someone else's computer space, just buy a 2 or 4 GB flash drive and use that. That way you can keep all your settings and take it with you anywhere. That is, if the JA EULA has nothing against that. Come to think of it, there probably is something that prohibits that as well...

Re: minimization

First i do it in the teen space. second they could care less if i load games there. third ordinarly i would agree with you about it being a quiet space(or at least it should be not so much at mine) the teens or older children not quiet teens yet so it is actually loud on occasion. fourth i dont load any thing onto a network drive i load games on internal hard drive that every computer has that gets formatted dayly(none of the computers have speakers so no sound we could care less). fith i read the user agreement it doesnt say i cant load things on the hard drive. initially they have them so you can save your work ie word documents pictures and then i really dont know if you dont email it to your self i suppose. there is no ja eula that i know of. even if there was with a nocd patch there is nothing stopping.

Yes, there is a EULA. Every program has a EULA. You are forced to agree before installing it.

And no cd patch = epic fail.

Re: minimization

You shouldn't really mess with the assets. If you intend to play the game, do a clean install. If it's too big to put on those PC's, do as Nab suggested and put it on an external drive 'n plug that in.

Still though, i wonder how exactly you intend to play a LAN game there, considering you'll need a seperate JA install for all clients and one for the server, and each of those (except for the server) will require the CD's to play.

And as we all know, no-cd cracks will trigger JA's anti-tamper check causing it to intentionally crash your game at random times with the imfamous 'CL_ParsePacketEntities: end of message' error.

Next issue is how the library will handle connections, as its very possible it'll be blocking traffic to and from the server, making it impossible to play JA there, but of course, it might work fine, who knows.

Anyway, unless you got all of that covered, I don't think its worth the trouble. You might as well home-host a server and have your friends join that. But in the end its up to you.

Re: minimization

A friend of mine did exactly this - stripping JA down to the bare minimum. If you want all the maps, you can get it down to about 300-500 MB. My friend had ffa5 only and it was running on a 64 MB flash drive, which was really neat. There were quite a few warnings and errors, but it was running.

I'm reluctant to help, though. It's technically piracy, and publicly at that. So I can't really say any more...

Besides, he doesn't use this forum, and I'm not about to give out someone else's contact info.

seems fair. well you helped me out quiet abit. thanks. as for callings it pifacy. you could call anything that. the only people playing would be my friend and i, and both of us have official copies, we just prefer lam games. the only reason i need it is i need to copy my minimised version from my flarh drive to the computer i am using while my friend plays off my flarh drive because he is hard pressed on flash drive space. damn thats alot to type using the psp's osk.
