Samurai model request

I know modellers don't read requests often (I know, I used to model for Half-Life) but I would like to see three models from The Last Samurai:
Olgren (Tom) Katsumoto and Ujio (the cool guy who just wouldn't die).

I hope somebody makes these models, but knowing how much trouble it is to make models for JK2/JA, nobody will probably do it.

Re: Samurai model request

I am not speaking as a modeller per se, but I am surprised that nobody in the modelling community has tried to model a samurai with the full armour thing and helmet yet. The potential for detail should (could) appeal to some modellers more so than others.

What you have to balance requests with is that some modellers do not actually play JKO/JKA and therefore only experience the buzz from actually making the model. it generally then requires some one sort out skeleton issues to import it into the game, skin it and so on. Generally speaking when you get a really good model, it involves the cooperation of quite a few people.

Having said that, I do think that if someone did a good model of a samurai in armour, then it would end up being re-skinned for clans prob as much as the reborn models ever were!

Re: Samurai model request

A lot of people do ask for models like that in a short sentence expecting it to be made. But because moddeling is so complicated and you have to pay for 3dsmax but for not JK2/GTKRadiant, there are not as many moddlers as there are requests and mappers! Also as it has recently come out, you need to give it some time for people to make the model. How long does it take for a model to be made from a movie thats just come out? Well, a while. It takes time, but since you have suggested it, it might just get some peoples attention.

Re: Samurai model request

There's a samurai skin being made, based on the Darth Vader (without mask) model, i dont know if it looks like someone from that movie tho.

Re: Samurai model request

It did occur to me that probably one of the best starting points for a samurai model would be the Darth Vader model.

I believe part of the original inspiration for the imperials had to be a totalitarian regime such as the Nazi regime, also drawing ideas from many aspects of this. Darth's helmet was seems at least partly inspired by the German WW2 soldiers' helmet, and the notion of the Jedi knights from the concept of the samurai and the Knights of Bushido code of Feudal Japan. It's gotta be a short step only from Darth's helmet to a samurai helmet and mask.Yes?

(Thinks:When does thinking out loud (called brainstorming) become spamming?)

Re: Samurai model request

And all imp officers looks like ss-mans.

Noghris and another races slaved by imperials are like people token to death-camps by nazis.

And it is why i love to spawn-and-kill so many imps

Re: Samurai model request

Well actually, before you guys started talking about Vader's helmet and Samurai helmets, I actually had a go at making some armour and a helmet (made from Vader's :) ) and putting it on the Jedi Trainer model. When I find a good host, I'll post a pic.

Here it is:

It's only a quick messing around thing, but I like it. But then of course I like it, I made it. :fistpunch:

I need to know if anyone else thinks it's okay.

Credits to sithlord-II for the vader helmet, and Raven soft. for the Jeditrainer model.

Re: Samurai model request

Looks great, maybe a bit red, but did samurais have mask for their face on their helmets?

MeusH February 16th, 2004 11:44 AM

Re: Samurai model request

Look great, except colours.

Samurais had silver (bit red, too) armor with 100% silver mask.

I hope You will made him more silver. This bone on helmet could be white.
Some of his suit should be brown, like leather.

Can you make him more fat?
I mean he has sooo big helmet. He has an armour. And his hands are so poor that I don't think he couldn't ever carry hi sword.

Sorry for this critics, but I want help U :D

 7/10  (now)

Hope it would be better

Re: Samurai model request

Hey no problem, that's why I posted the pic, to get opinions! The red is just temporary. Unfortunately I can't skin very well (I only have PaintShop, and I'm no good with that).

Okay here's the plan: The main model will have Silver armour, the Red team model will have red armour (obviously) with a red flag on his back (they had those) and the blue one will be a sort of greyish blue colour with a blue flag on his back.

Oh and $Michiel$, the samurai wore scary masks in battle to scare their opponents. The mask will be removable.

Jimesu_Evil February 16th, 2004 09:50 PM

Re: Samurai model request

When I did the red armour, I had in mind something like the armour Tom Cruise wears in The Last Samurai.

http://www.thezreview.co.uk/images2/...muraithe03.jpg

Of course at the moment my armour is not very detailed.

Re: Samurai model request

Sounds great, hope you can learn skinning, or that someone'll skin it for you.
And thanks about the mask info ;)

Re: Samurai model request

I heard lot of opinions that in 'the last samurai' history and culture level = 0.
I mean this film doesn't shows real samurai culture.

In my ng i found very good photo of armour of some samurai:
mostly black leather with silver metal, gold and red stuff. They had very lot of detailed stuff...
This 'horn' on helmet was mostly gold

Here are some pics I've found on net:

Re: Samurai model request

I think this is a great idea but, I have no clue how to model...

Re: Samurai model request

Okay, just for anyone who is actually interested in the release of this model, it is progressing well. The helmet is much better...

http://webspace.iphq.co.uk/fanart/samurai3.jpg

... and I am now a n00b skinner! I can make basic skins, and as you can see I've already skinned the mask and part of the helmet. I've got to revamp the mask skin a bit though, the detail needs to be sharper.

Anyway, the model is not dead, and it will be released. I just won't show any updates from now on coz I can't be stuffed. :moon:

Yes, it looks very good.
I'm really looking forward to this model.

Re: Samurai model request

Okay, I know I said no updates, but here's one anyway.
Here's the model with full armour showing the Red and Blue skins (if anyone wants to reskin it, be my guest!)

http://webspace.iphq.co.uk/fanart/samurairedblue.jpg

And here's a close up of the new mask skin, nothing special but it's much better than the first one:

Okay, if anyone reading this wants to add the skeleton, tell me and I'll send the model to you. If nobody adds the skeleton, the model can not be released.

Re: Samurai model request

WOW! This is so great!

100/10 :D

You could also add some small metal things that are fixed to armor
And default version would be brown\silver\black ?

,but wait do you have the bones for the model yet?????

Jimesu_Evil March 7th, 2004 07:47 PM

Re: Samurai model request

No I don't. I'm looking for someone to do that for me. I would add the bones myself, but I don't have 3ds max.

Re: Samurai model request

send me a pm when you get it working ok?

Re: Samurai model request

just saw this thread, and the progress you've shown along the way is great. Definitely a top-notch model. The only negative i have is that the "masks" don't look like masks, but rather paint. Don't know how much modeling experience you have, but if you're able to "raise" it off the face a little, with the sides attached to the helmet, then it would look more realistic i think.

I wish i had 3dsmax to make it for you, but unfortunately i'm in the same boat as you...I've got milkshape, but until version 2.0 is released (and only if it truly can export glm's like it's advertising it will), I can't do any of the models i want.

Okay, this model is scrapped. My HD got a virus, and after all my precautions of keeping backup files, I wasn't expecting the CDs to be faulty. Sorry everyone.
