Assets Folder

Is there a website or place on the internet that gives exact, step-by-step instructions on how to open the assets files so that changes can be made? If you know of such a site, please include a link to it.

Re: Assets Folder

well i dont know much of a site but i can tell u now?

1. Go To my computer and go to 'tools' on the bar at top
2. Go to 'folder options'
3. go to view when the window pops up
4. Make sure the tick box is not ticked where it says 'Hide extentions for known file tipes'

5. quit 'My Computer'
6. Go to one of the assets and right click on it
7. select 'Rename'
8. Now delete the part where it says 'pk3' and rename to 'zip'
9. Press Enter.
10. Double click on the zip folder and u can edit some stuff

try not to mess with too much things or jk might go wong.

hope thats understandable.

Re: Assets Folder

Thanks, I'll try it. All I want to do is change Kyle's sabercolor in SP without having to use the console command and type it in everytime I load a level.

Re: Assets Folder

ok, but i do have windows XP and im not sure if the File extention thingy is on other versions :S

Re: Assets Folder

I also have Windows XP. There are 2 assets pk.3's. One is "assets1" and the other is "assets0". I don't know which one to go into. Like I said, I just want to change the sabercolor in SP. (I like green.)

Re: Assets Folder

I just don't want to screw anything up. I've never done this before. You might say I'm "technologically challenged." I'm not stupid, just inexperienced with this kind of thing.

Re: Assets Folder

You need pakscape, to open Pk3 files, and for the green saber you need a cfg file (and autoexec.cfg)

JediRanger3 January 8th, 2004 07:05 AM

Re: Assets Folder

Nevermind then. I don't have pakscape (whatever that is), and I don't know cfg, autoexec,or any of that technical crap. Forget it. I'll just keep playing the game as I have been. Why can't anything ever be EASY???????

N3G1@ January 8th, 2004 07:19 AM

Re: Assets Folder

pakscape is a light software as winzip that can open PK3 files... The cfg file is a file with a bunch of command lines that can be executed by JK2... If you create a cfg with a command line like this...

helpusobi 1
sabercolor green
helpusobi 0

...You'll just have to open the console, write "exec yournewcustomcfg.cfg" and you'll have your green saber... you can even just bind a key to the sabercolor green command... It's easier (i don't know why I wanted to get things more complicated with this cfg stuff...)

Re: Assets Folder

Hi!

Natasha here!

He's CRAZY!

You don't need 'packscape' or whatever!

You can OPEN the assets package with WinZip! (it's assets0.pk3 you're looking for for saber colour by the way). You might want to use WinRAR to re-pack it though; we had trouble with WinZip putting it back together.

Better still, if ALL you want to do is change SABER COLOUR, set it up on a bind, like this:

bind x saberColor green

Then, every time you start, you can change it to green! (just substitute whatever colour you want from the list; red, orange, blue [default], purple, yellow [is that all of them?], and you can substitute 'x' for whatever letter you aren't using). THEN you don't have to open ANY files.

IF you still wish to unpack assets files, just right-click on it, then 'Open With...' and go down to WinZip or WinRAR. A little side-note here; you may NOT be able to play the game with the files all unpacked; RaVeN had some trouble with that trying to play multi-player, but his other version for single-player worked with both assets packages unpacked.

Did that help?

Wuvz!

Re: Assets Folder

Yes, thanks. I'll just stick with the key bind. I don't want to take a chance of screwing up the game.

JediRanger3,btw, if you rename the pk3 extension to zip, you must rename it back to pk3 first or the game wont work properly

Re: Assets Folder

Hello.

I haven't been here in sooooo long. Just setup my home LAN and rediscovered JK2. I had forgotten how much fun it is. I must plug the ForceMOD II as well that is a GREAT MOD.

But my question is similar. I want to have the Darth Maul bot to use the Red dual-bladed saber that he uses in the film. (I would love to set the animations along with it but I am a noob in skinning and modding so I'll keep it simple for now).

Would I go into the Assets folder or in the bot .pk3 for the Maul for this type of change?

Also where is a FAQ about the command line and config exe for the MP game?

Re: Assets Folder

you don't have to rename ANYTHING with .zip or .rar! You simply have to Right click on it, 'open with' > Select from a list > Select Winzip or WinRAR, and check the 'Always use this program for this type of file' box and that's it!

All you have to do next time you wish to open a .pk3 is to double click on it!

If I were mean, I would tell you STOP messing around with noobs, they are affraid of both us, veteran players, and the game itself, as they don't understand it!

All you have to do is to open the pk3 file which added the maul model (use whatever you want, although I think Pakscape is easier and better for modding...), then you have to go in the ext_data directory then look for the new maul's npc file. open it with notepad, and look for a "sabercolor" param. Change the value from [whatever you see] to "red" (without quotes). Save it on desktop, replace it in the maul's pk3 file, save it and enjoy!

Re: Assets Folder

in JO you can never give a bot or an npc a dual-bladed saber, only you can have one by activating cheats and then typing /thedestroyer (but first deactivate your saber by pressing 1)

Zeta09 April 8th, 2004 08:39 PM

Re: Assets Folder

Man that is too bad if you are right Shark. Can you customize bots and NPCs in Jedi Academy? Also how then does the comp decide to give for instance the Jedi Trainer a dual bladed white saber in some of the mods? Also seems that the Maul bot has the hilt for the dual blade but the second blade graphic isn't activated. Seems like it would be possible.

N3G1@ April 9th, 2004 01:24 AM

Re: Assets Folder

Whiteshark IS right. In JK2 SP you can't give an NPC a true saber staff. You can just give him the hilt, but it'll work just like in ep1 (first fight Qui-Gon vs. Maul).
In JA things work differently. Every npc has its own npc file, and in that file you can choose many params for your npc, such as the saber color and the saber hilt. Open some npc files and look at the commands. Then get a Maul for JA and change his npc file.

Re: Assets Folder

Hmmph!!!

Well then do you think Jedi Academy is worth the price(~$50) for basically what serves as an Outcast patch? I really didn't finish the sp game cuz I lost interest. I love the MP game and the idea of all the customization that all the outcast fans have created. What do you all think (without making this post a poll)

Re: Assets Folder

Here's a automatic cfg file:

Open Notepad, then write:
Helpusobi 1
sabercolor green
Helpusobi 0

save this file as "autoexec.cfg"

You won't need to type anything in console...

Re: Assets Folder

When I used to have JK2 i was making a mod that was very similiar to this. I tried using an autoexec.cfg, but it didn't seem to work. If you try that and it works, good for you, but if it doesn't, you can always edit the ui files, so that it automatically does it whenever you hit new or load game. (it's a bit of a pain though, but if nothing else works...)

homo sine domino April 14th, 2004 10:07 AM

Re: Assets Folder

I have an autoexec.cfg too...

maybe execute it once and then it'll work always
