Assets Folder

Is there a website or place on the internet that gives exact, step-by-step instructions on how to open the assets files so that changes can be made? If you know of such a site, please include a link to it.

Re: Assets Folder

well i dont know much of a site but i can tell u now?

1. Go To my computer and go to 'tools' on the bar at top
2. Go to 'folder options'
3. go to view when the window pops up
4. Make sure the tick box is not ticked where it says 'Hide extentions for known file tipes'

5. quit 'My Computer'
6. Go to one of the assets and right click on it
7. select 'Rename'
8. Now delete the part where it says 'pk3' and rename to 'zip'
9. Press Enter.
10. Double click on the zip folder and u can edit some stuff

try not to mess with too much things or jk might go wong.

hope thats understandable.

Thanks, I'll try it. All I want to do is change Kyle's sabercolor in SP without having to use the console command and type it in everytime I load a level.

I also have Windows XP. There are 2 assets pk.3's. One is "assets1" and the other is "assets0". I don't know which one to go into. Like I said, I just want to change the sabercolor in SP. (I like green.)

I just don't want to screw anything up. I've never done this before. You might say I'm "technologically challenged." I'm not stupid, just inexperienced with this kind of thing.

Re: Assets Folder

You need pakscape, to open Pk3 files, and for the green saber you need a cfg file (and autoexec.cfg)

Re: Assets Folder

Nevermind then. I don't have pakscape (whatever that is), and I don't know cfg, autoexec,or any of that technical crap. Forget it. I'll just keep playing the game as I have been. Why can't anything ever be EASY???????

Re: Assets Folder

pakscape is a light software as winzip that can open PK3 files... The cfg file is a file with a bunch of command lines that can be executed by JK2... If you create a cfg with a command line like this...

helpusobi 1
sabercolor green
helpusobi 0

...You'll just have to open the console, write "exec yournewcustomcfg.cfg" and you'll have your green saber... you can even just bind a key to the sabercolor green command... It's easier (i don't know why I wanted to get things more complicated with this cfg stuff...)

Hi!

Natasha here!

He's CRAZY!

You don't need 'packscape' or whatever!

You can OPEN the assets package with WinZip! (it's assets0.pk3 you're looking for for saber colour by the way). You might want to use WinRAR to re-pack it though; we had trouble with WinZip putting it back together.

Better still, if ALL you want to do is change SABER COLOUR, set it up on a bind, like this:

bind x saberColor green

Then, every time you start, you can change it to green! (just substitute whatever colour you want from the list; red, orange, blue [default], purple, yellow [is that all of them?], and you can substitute 'x' for whatever letter you aren't using). THEN you don't have to open ANY files.

IF you still wish to unpack assets files, just right-click on it, then 'Open With...' and go down to WinZip or WinRAR. A little side-note here; you may NOT be able to play the game with the files all unpacked; RaVeN had some trouble with that trying to play multi-player, but his other version for single-player worked with both assets packages unpacked.

Did that help?

Wuvz!
