Modeller Needed Plz.
 
Greetings. I've come to these boards with a favor to ask anyone who can help.

Recently I learned how to skin characters and up until now, I've been having only minor problems. My most recent project, however, is going to need a little extra work.

The plan was to customize a particular skin, so that I may use it in my daily jk2 use. I chose a version of the Solid Snake skin which in my opinion was done extremely well.

The problem is that it is put together symetrically, so if I were to put (for example) writing on the shoulder, it would appear on the other shoulder as well, and it would appear backwards. This poses a problem with my plan. Many others that I have talked to have had the exact same problem as well.

So my question is this. Could someone please remodel the Solid Snake v2 skin so that this is no longer a problem. While the skin I wish to use was found at jk2files.com, you can find the exact one I wish to use here: http://www.kluz.no-ip.org/bigpapaj/snakev2.pk3

couldnt you just make 2 versions of the same part of the body, so u could have like left arm with writing, right arm, without? then point to the different files for the different arms in the .SKIN file? just a guess, so sorry if it doesnt work.

Yeah - The above idea should work great... here is how to do it.
Example on lando skin. File: model_default.skin

r_arm,models/players/lando/lando_torso.tga
l_arm,models/players/lando/yourshoulderpic.tga

Basically - the shoulder that u want to edit , place it in another image file and have the skin file point to that image under r_arm or l_arm.

OR

failing that idea above... i have access to 3dsmax6 and could re-uvmap the model so that the arms are separate images.

Would that idea work for the torso as well? Basically the entire model is done this way. Kind of a weird way to put together a model though I suppose having ppl reskin the model wasn't fresh in the author's mind.

It will work for any body part/section that is defined in the model_default.skin file. :D

Well the idea appeared to be working for a little bit. Unfortunately the torso is also split in half vertically and the model just takes the picture twice and flips one of them. Basically , in the .skin file, there is only 1 line for the two torso jpegs.

A few of us got together to try to figure it out, but are out of ideas.


This skin is starting to become more of a hassle than I had thought it would be.

Oh... and I suppose I forgot to mention. That skin has two different skins in it. snake_mgs1 and snake_mgs2. The one I'm trying to use is the mgs1.

If i download the model that u want edited... Could you plz clarify exactly what u want me to do with it? Do u want me to edit the uvmaps for more locations? Plz explain.

LOL,

im not too worried about it

i just dont like the large pk3 file.. its not that it is large, its that it was downloaded 40 times within a 3 hour period. I dont have that much bandwidth to throw around..

Small pictures are great, large uncompressed files suck.

I keep telling him to read the aup, but he like never does.

I dont know if anyone remembers me in jk2, it was a pretty good game till my clan *cough*IF*cough* went all weird...

But i digress..

BPJ, be aware of the AUP..

HAHA!!! Sorry Killer. I honestly didn't expect that many people to download it.

Ok. Here is basically what I need for anyone who can do it.

I need the model or skin or whatever to be set up so that it isn't so damn symetrical! I need the jpegs of BOTH arms, BOTH legs, BOTH halves of the torso, etc.


I have sent a message out to the creator of this particular model/skin, Graves. He said that he could send me the max file, but since I have no idea what that is, it won't do me much good.

"Thanks for the compliment. I'm sorry to tell you that there really is no easy fix for that. The .skin file can't fix the problem. The only way to do that is to re-uvmap and re-texture the entire torso. The only way to do that is to alter the original max file. If you feel up to mucking around in 3dsmax then i could send you the max file. Imo tho, it will be a whole lotta work for a tag on his back:(

That is what I will need to pull off this skin. If that is too much to ask then please just say so. I understand that this is supposed to be a leisure game and activity and so I wouldn't want to take up all of someone's time with this minor thing.

As always, I appreciate all the help you have all given me with this project, and I only hope that I can someday return the favor.

basically I have noticed that no one mentions the using of something else to edit this to a good amount. what you must use unless you are a lam3r is to use a hex edit0r. With by doing thise action in the best way then possibly a good thing can occur without the needs to learn alot about 3d stuido maxium. then basicaly bigpapaj what you need to do is safe the new file in a way that it works but yiou must learn hexidecamal maths to know this. or when you are editting the jpg file into your grafics programs then just flip it over and colore the backside of the piece solid. this should stop the bad images from comin thru. I have hoped that my elite abilets have helped you to make a good dreem come true.

Interesting concept, creating more jpeg files and adding them to a pak collection with a hex editor. Last time i checked the only reason i needed to kex edit anything was to correct a checksum error in a binary that compiled wrong. Another use i have used one for is to change some stuff in a couple programs.. To edit images and change skins.. never..

Hex maths? Ok now im really confused.. Last time i checked i dont do math in hex, i convert to binary or decimal and complete the mathmatical operations. Well unless you can remember that A+D=17

why use all the hex editing hooblabla... when i can just re-uvmap it in max? wont take long, and no maths involved :D

into the midele of the headre infor the file. this will be fixing the problems of trnasperantyy you have. also, perhaps to you edit the file s in a programme like adbode phototship and change the anti-tanrespency and anti-alesie to 0 then this will when you meeire the image to 180 degree make it in the best ways. try these method in the first before a rdicl way is done.
