Many interface sounds are gone

Recently I ran into the problem that many interface sounds are missing. Not all of them, but for example when Artoo and Threepio pop back up in Galactic Mode ('Hello sir!'), or when a stormtrooper informs you prior to a space battle to 'elimate them, to prepare for a land invasion'.

I regularly change things in the XML files or try other files from mods to see what effect they have. Probabaly it is something I used from Republic at War, since all those interface sounds are gone in that mod, too.

I tried a lot of things already, but to no prevail. Does anyone have a clue where to look for this? It's not in the unit's individual or team xml files, it's not in Gameconstants.xml.

Does this affect the stock game or is it mod-specific?

I'm very much ashamed... There was a setting in the menu that switched these sounds off.

Apparently one can be so busy changing the game in the XMLs, that one forgets there's also something called 'Game Settings'...
