(FoC) Galactic Conquest with 2 factions?

I've been thinking of starting to play EaW, but is there a mod that allows to play GC with only 2 factions at a time?

I have some very (very, very, very...) limited experience modding XML's, is this something I can setup myself?

Edit: Also, is there a way to change the amount of planets you start with in GC?

By 2 factions do you mean only 2 playable(empire, rebels, and non-playable pirates), or only 2 total(empire and rebels)?

The first, with empire, rebels, and non-playable pirates, is the vanilla game. Even with the non-playable pirates in the universe, it may as well just be the rebels vs empire, as the pirates are pushovers.

Oops. I didn't noticed FoC was in the title. I think I remember seeing a mod that changes it to only 2 factions somewhere, not sure though. Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem, an answer is an answer... ;)

I heard somewhere that the Absolute Corruption had 1v1 GC's, but I don't want any new units, just 1 less faction.

I read in the (massive) FAQ thread that removing the Consortium was as easy as editing one XML, is this true?

Also, say I wanted to remove certain rebel/empire units from the game (the MC30 for example), how would I do that?

You can remove a faction from any GC campaign by....

1. Copying Campaigns_Underworld_Gc.xml, and placing it in the data\xml folder.
2. Open it with notepad, and remove the starting units for the faction you want to eliminate for one of the campaigns. Remove the AI informations, and starting tech levels as well. NOTE: There are three versions of each campaign, linked by the tag <Campaign_Set>, one for each faction.
