I don't entirely understand what that has to do with things. The select box is the least of my worries; I don't even know if my idea WORKS or not yet. I've done a simple test by using an MC90 model that game with a mod I dl'd on a ship as a hardpoint and then used power to shields, without activating the MC90's shield mesh. I have no idea if that's because it doesn't work or if it's just the animation, so that's not exactly helpful. All I'm asking is for someone to make a simple, 5-minute-model that consists of only a 'ROOT' bone and a shield mesh large enough to fit a capital ship such as an ISD.
