More Tech Levels...
 
With all the mods out there that try to span the entire story of Star Wars, is it possible to increase the amount of Tech levels, in stead of 1-5, to 1-10?

You could have the rebellion start off with 1-5, then perhaps after Tech 5, a new research center becomes available to the rebels allowing them to research and produce ships of the New Republic Era, with older ships like the Y-Wing being removed/replaced by items like K-Wings on key worlds (kuat, rendilli, coruscant) and the older ships still available for production on fringe planets. 5 levels of space stations could be kept, possibly even spread out more so that they only upgrade on odd Tech Levels. This would allow gameplay to span an much broader timeline.

Can this be done, or no?

It should be possible, yes. However, it may require some scripting, depending on how cooperative the game is. I've accidentally been on Tech 6 before with PR when debugging a script, but since I don't really use tech levels, I can't say how the game would take it overall. But it's possible to go above 5.

it's been talked about, and actually (somewhat) done in a mod that i can't remember before, however i think the space station slots are hardcoded so i'm not sure if you can add new station lvls or not

there is one mod that lets you get a tech lvl 6 space station on corusant, but I forget what mod it was, and it was only in glactic conquest.

Station level is limited in the planets.xml file, it is not hardcoded. It is also possible to reach tech level 99, as it is the set tech level for all units that are not to be buildable, such as the Generic Star Destroyer. However, you would be able to build this if you were allowed to buy each tech level untill you are at 99.

I don't know how its done though. Mainly because I don't ever mess with tech levels and stuff like that.

If creating tech levels is too buggy, then the possiblility of upgrading from Rebellion era units to New Republic era units could be done thru story mode. It would be based upon game age. The longer you play the units age, and are upgraded.

Uhm the Space Station lvl 6 is Return of the Clones mod but it wont work.

I can make a station six, seven, eight, and nine by just coding them in. I don't have models for them so they would all be identical picture wise, but they would be enhanced, stronger, and more powerful. If station level six doesn't work on RotC, then they've messed up the coding.

The coding was alright for the spacestation file but dont know why it dont show.idk what else to edit to make the spacestation to show up to buy.

Yep thats right, and I have no idea why it doesn't work. I edited the space stations xml, the game constants xml, the planets xml - I can't figure it out.

Shadowcrow - if you could help me in making a level 6 space station only available at Coruscant, it would be greatly appreciated and I'll add you into the credits for your help.

All this is very beautiful but generally the AI do not build the station 6 or to make the level 6 upgrade. And you can not code it probably.

technically you can increase the tech levels however tech 6 upwards is buggy. i.e. squadrons dont spawn from ships. our mod was working on something similar with the tech levels but there were too many bugs with tech 6 so we made it that it changed at tech 5. as for replacing the ships with newer ones, i suppose you could use the story xmls so it is like the z-95's that are replaced by x-wings. only chnage it for the ships you want. and as for leaving it buildable on outer planets, just create a variant at that tech level with the build planets listed as you want it.

overall, your idea is best implemented at tech 5 at the latest. there are too many bugs with extra techs. as for extra space stations, that is a whole other issue.

At the moment, I'm concentrated on school and other domestic issues. When I get some spare time I'll make a "demo" or base version for you to work off of.

well, school work dose come first, in some cases not for me but at my age grades not matter yet, no until High Schoo :).....but I am half/ a year away form high school :bawl:......oh well.
