heres an update of mine then...pictures during each process. The lights might be replaced again soon while I try a different style of lights.

What is the black box on skin? I saw them your Implacable model and yes the skin and lights from this Demolisher Cruiser remember me to the skin from your Implacable.

The black bits are Damage Decal meshes, We don't like shoddy work with no damaged areas.

Are you speaking from destroyed parts that you see when ship lose some hardpoints?

Sort off, Because none of us are good enough to make attachable Hardpoints, we add Emmiters and Decal which make smoke and a burned area to simulate a large quantity of damage.

it simulates a damaged hull - scarring scorch burns effect.

they use different shaders however.
