V-19 Starfighter WIP

This is one of my new creations. A V-19 in low-poly, under construction.
You may have seen this craft in the first season of Clone Wars.
Unfortunately, I don't have the blueprints so I had to suffer with the 3/4 view of the ship and try and model it from there. Now my work partly depends on you people :cya:. If you see mistakes in the proportions, element sizes, full ship scale... tell me freely (this is a community of course).
I'll have the textures ready soon too.
http://www.geocities.com/v_jedi512/v19_low_01.jpg

# of faces: approximately 1200-1300
% of work done: 33.333%

This ship has been known for his fighter use in the early years of the Clone Wars but since I can't find an appropreate republic bomber to model I will texture and code a heavy version of this ship (with gold markings), that has proton torpedoes.

I think the bottom engine should be lower a bit and here's a good pic of the V-19 http://images.wikia.com/starwars/ima...tarfighter.jpg

Uh, that's the 3/4 view i mentioned that I used.

nason May 24th, 2007 12:30 PM

nice one dude

Lt_hawkeye May 24th, 2007 03:00 PM

this has already been made, so just a simple question. why make it again?

ShaloKran May 24th, 2007 03:31 PM

I've seen the IA2 version but it looked kinda funny. It didn't seem to look like the one in the cartoon series so I wanted to make a new one. Besides, I wanted to design craft that would act as fighters/bombers from the part of the clone wars before the ARC-170 and V-Wings were used.

I have now finished the wing/main hull(w/o cockpit), nose extension, cannon and dorsal wing textures. It is now 00:30 in Serbia and I will see you tomorrow =P. Gotta get some rest this max/photoshop swappin is killing my eyes.

Oh and by the way I fixed the polycount. It's now 1138 (?!? digg the number on Wookieepedia) faces in total, plus-minus.

Kalo Shin May 24th, 2007 04:25 PM

Hawkeye - Cause hes talented enough.

Very cool.

ShaloKran May 25th, 2007 12:30 AM

talent is only 5 percent I've been learning max for 5 years already (passively of course, it's a hobby)

ShaloKran May 25th, 2007 03:12 AM

Don't think this thread is dead... here's the latest update (still unfinished)
http://www.geocities.com/v_jedi512/v19_low2.jpg
Took me awhile to finish the cockpit texture but I actually did it. Stay tuned for more.

ShaloKran May 25th, 2007 04:29 AM

And now - the finishing touch! All the textures are finished. Now it just needs to be rigged, scaled and exported, and here you have it.
http://www.geocities.com/v_jedi512/v19_low3.jpg
If anyone has a tutorial about rigging fighters i would appreciate it. In any case, the bomber version is coming to you.

Sgt. Hicks May 25th, 2007 08:10 AM

Dude I got to have it, it looks awesome. Nice work

Derrick17 May 25th, 2007 09:13 AM

yea i'v got 2 have it in are mod

shak4l 01 May 25th, 2007 09:58 AM

Fighter rigging tut: EaW Vault: Content / Tutorials / ALO Exporting Tutorial
Nice model man:)

ShaloKran May 25th, 2007 10:48 AM

thanks people. you've all been so incredibly appreciative I don't know what to say. this dignity is something i get to meet rarely in my short life.

btw that tutorial is Bloody Brilliant!!!

ShaloKran May 25th, 2007 04:08 PM

the tutorial DOES work. But I am having problems with the textures. You see, I've copied the textures to the EAW destinations in the art folder but when I use the aloviewer the textures are not shown.

also, the tutorial does not mention anything about setting the unit size for specialized needs (like how big a fighter should be, for example)

DrkSbr22 May 25th, 2007 04:13 PM

dude, the v19 looks cool! also, did the second pm help you? did you find the yuuzhan vong stuff?

You can use ALO viewer to compare it's size to stock game fighters and resize it properly in max.

Lt_hawkeye May 26th, 2007 01:02 AM

ok i take back what io said, very cool looking model. i wish we could get all models to look that good. great job!

ShaloKran May 26th, 2007 03:07 AM

Ok, and here's the last part of the texturing business - the V19 Bomber. Notice how I've added the proton torpedo extension under the hull. (this version of the V-19 is non-canonical)

Sorry I can't contact you guys when ur usually online cos I live on the Balkan and my time zone is 6-8 hours in plus from yours.

Sgt. Hicks May 26th, 2007 06:18 AM

nice job, can't say it enough got to have it haha good work.

codeuser May 26th, 2007 06:29 AM

It doesn't matter what size it is in Max since you can rescale it with code

DrkSbr22 May 26th, 2007 10:04 AM

box modeling is the basis of every non-organic model and it's practically the easiest method of them all.

DrkSbr22 May 26th, 2007 10:29 AM

cool. so youre done with it already?

ShaloKran May 26th, 2007 10:36 AM

it still needs to be rigged for functionality.
also, I'm having an issue with the model - the textures won't show in the viewer but I think I'll be able to fix this.

Kalo Shin May 26th, 2007 01:05 PM

Is the texture in your Data/Art/Textures directory?

DrkSbr22 May 26th, 2007 05:06 PM

i think the texture needs to be in the texture folder in the directory of the data folder.

Derrick17 May 26th, 2007 05:08 PM

ok you put the model in the art/model and the textures in the art/texture folder of the data of foc

DrkSbr22 May 26th, 2007 05:09 PM

we all said that! :D funny.

ShaloKran May 27th, 2007 02:17 AM

Alright the fighter is DONE. Now just two things need to be fixed and the puzzle will be finally over mwahahahaha. This is what I need:

The alamo export tutorial didn't say anything about the shadow mesh (shadmesh) object and what it should do. Now i know that other fighters have these shadow mesh objects attached to them I just need to know what I have to do with them in order to have them cast a shadow on my ship (because the ship is a little bright)

Also, I'd like to know how to make the ship lasers blue.

Avenger85 May 27th, 2007 02:35 AM

To make a good shadow mesh you need simpliefied model (preferably a bit smaller than main mesh) covered with meshshadowvolume.fx shader. If your model is low-poly, you can just copy it insted of making new mesh and it will work pretty well, too.
If the fighter is too bright, there is probably something wrong with a spectacular map (texture's alpha). Maybe you just left it white?
Laser color is a coder's job. But if you mean muzzle flashes, w_laser_small2.dds is a file you need.
BTW Very nice model I must admit :)

ShaloKran May 27th, 2007 02:41 AM

And here it is - the 'beta version' of the finished model - the V-19 Torrent!
http://www.geocities.com/v_jedi512/v19_ingame_1.jpg
Stay tuned for more!

ShaloKran May 27th, 2007 03:05 AM

And at last - the moment you've all been waiting for - a close-up of the model at its best! The fighter is finished with a total work time of 4 days (passive).

Sgt. Hicks May 27th, 2007 06:18 AM

Nice work. Do you plan to release it?

Derrick17 May 27th, 2007 07:44 AM

great that is awsome i can't wait to play it

ShaloKran May 27th, 2007 10:19 AM

I'll release it as a modders utility on FileFront.

ShaloKran May 27th, 2007 11:44 AM

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

I have sent the files to EAWFiles and they should be out available for download within the week (if the crew didn't fall asleep :P). This will be the last post from me on this thread.
