Default Help! Can't return to main menu after a game.

As the the name of the topic says, each time I try to quit to the main menu from each game, I cannot get back to the main menu. Instead, I get the the black screen of doom. My game is definately 100% original and I just got it today. It is a new copy too. I don't have such problems(so far) in my other programs such as Battlefield 2, Flight Simulator 2004 and Battlestations: Midway just to name a few. They work fine. Btw, its patched to the Official Version 1.1.

Cool Re: Help! Can't return to main menu after a game.

Could you please tell me your computer specifications? CPU, RAM amount, graphic card (company, generation and VRAM amount, DirectX version (run DxDiag and check for problems while you're at it) and OS (XP or Vista). Also, are you using desktop computer to play the game or laptop?

Cool Re: Help! Can't return to main menu after a game.

Ok, thanks for the info. My Google searches on this problem were useless. I can't find anything helpfull. Still, I have a few suggestions of my own, but I don't know if any of them will solve the problem.

Go to Start -> Run, type DxDiag and click Ok. This will load DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Wait for the application to fully load and then check Display tab. Run both DirectDraw and Direct3D tests and see if any problem/error report pops up at any time. Now, go to Sound tab and check Hardware Sound Acceleration Level. Normally, it should be up at maximum. In any case, try changing the acceleration level to different values and test the game each time. It's a longshot, but it's been known to help. Also, take a peek at your DirectX version and tell me which one is it.

You can also try updating your graphic drivers. You can get them here:

Drivers & Tools | GAME.AMD.COM

Finally, if nothing of the above works, I suggest you to try running the game on some other XP computer, but without the Service Pack 3. I've heard something about SP 3 causing problems to some old(er) games, so that could be the problem here.

Good luck.

There are also other problems, such as it takes too long to load a level at times.

Hmm... Ok, try this. Right click on .exe file (I don't have this game, so I don't know the exact file name and it's location), choose Properties, go to Compatibility tab, enable Compatibility mode, set it for Windows 98 / Windows Me, click Ok and try running the game. Just remember what you did so you can go back and undo the change in case it causes more problems.

Think its the XP Sevice Pack 3 issue. Could I also run it under Windows 2000?
