You heard wrong. It runs fine with SP3. Does it work for you or not, do you have any mods, custom maps, etc.?

But I keep getting black screens and it hangs sometimes. This are my specs: XP home SP3, video card is 256MB ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 Series (ATI Radeon Graphics Processor AGP (0x4153)) and CPU speed's 1.8Ghz Performance rated at 2.20Ghz. Lastly, CPU is AMD Athlon XP2200+ and system RAM is 2GB

Well, my com's XP SP3 and sometimes it freezes/hangs while loading a level or when I try to return to the main menu. Tried Compatibility but to no avail.

Default Patch to fix issue with XP SP3
Perhaps LucasArts/Pandemic should release a patch to make BF2 compatible with SP3. If not, then there should be an unofficial patch by some modder out there.

Cool Re: Help! Can't return to main menu after a game.
Try compatibility again, but this time set it for Windows 2000, if you haven't tried it yet. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the game, but test it without the patch this time.

Do you get an error message of any sort? Also, are all of your drivers up to date? What do you mean by "hang", frame rate?

I found another problem with this video card and gaming: » Readon X1050 AGP And Game crashing.

One suggestion was: » Ati radeon agp hotfix driver is out.

But its definitely not SP3 that's the problem.

It's compatible. I have SP3 on two machines, both of which have SWBF2 installed with no issues.
