Making a skin pack

I have all the skins that came with the mod tools, I have the appropriate programs for making skins or editing existing ones, I do not know what to do once I'm done making the skin... for example: I want to re-skin the imp stormtrooper... I find the file edit it and then save it... what do I do next?

What is it exactly you would like tod do? Iīm not an exeprt but I think if you want to make a skin pack then just put them all togheter in a ZIP file. Is that what youīre looking for?

Re: Making a skin pack

Make a new custom map.
Make a new custom side within that map.
Use the skin in the custom side.
Munge the new map with the new custom side selected in the drop-down box.

I suppose ^this^ won't help, so I'm including this:

Re: Making a skin pack

All I want to do is make a skins that will replace the original game skins. I know there's a way to do it cause they did it with the unofficial 1.2 patch.

Re: Making a skin pack

You munge your custom side with the skins in. Then you go to the GameData\data\_lvl_PC\side and replace the .lvl files for the side you edited there. Make sure you have a backup of them first. This keeps multiplayer compatibility.

Re: Making a skin pack

Alright, I'll try that. How exacty do I munge the custom side with the skins though?

Re: Making a skin pack

Put your skins in the msh folder, in your sideīs folder replacing the ones there. Then munge and do what the guy told you in the previous post. If you donīt know how to munge is easy. Just go to your _build folder and there youīll see something called "ModTools VisualMunge". Open it and in worlds choose yours. In sides you the name of your side and then press qhere it says munge. When itīs finished then do what the other guy told you. Hope I have helped.

Re: Making a skin pack

Oh... so I need to make a new world, and pretty much set it up the same way I would if I were to make new skins for a custom map. Then once the side is munged I copy and paste it in the "...lvl_PC\side" folder. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Ps. Another question. I don't know how to ask it, so I'll give an example:
I am editing the republic side.
1). I make a new world. I copy and paste the "rep" side folder and put it where it should be in my world's folder.
2). I edit a skin (in this case the ep3trooper)
3). I save the skin, replacing the old one.
4). I munge the world (and, don't worry, I check "rep" as sides to munge)
What do I do now? Where do I find my munged rep folder? Am I doing this totally wrong?

Re: Making a skin pack

You don't need a custom side for a custom skin..... just copy the common and whetever side's skin you wanna edit into your worlds Side folder edit the skin save change the ReadDataFile("SIDE\\rep.lvl, to ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\rep.lvl and munge. Depending on the side your skinning you would put the dc: on all.lvl or cis.lvl or emp.lvl. I don't think you need to do theultimat's way to keep online compatability I never do that and yet my maps still have online compatability (well some of them depending on other factors it would be online compatible or not) and this tut assumes that you have a fully functional map already if you don't you better get to work.

Re: Making a skin pack

I was wondering why my customized "rep.lvl" file was so many kbs smaller than the one that was in the side folder. I'm forgot to copy and paste the "common" folder and munge that. *stupid slap*.

My previous posts must be very confusing because I want the skins to replace all the skins in the game like the "unofficial patch" mods.

Sorry for the double post... IT WORKS!!!

Sure, the skin might be a little crappy, but at least I know how to do it. Thanks for all the help. By the way... guess what went wrong? I compressed the file. That's why it never worked! Ha! I'm so happy!

Re: Making a skin pack

It's not a horrible skin (better than mine=p) I see you have the death star in there, are you perhaps making a remake of the death star level with new models?

Re: Making a skin pack

No, my original idea was an episode 3 skin pack, but I kinda want to do something slightly different. I'm working on a map, but not a death star map. What I'm going to do is mod the sides. Once I'm 50% done with it, I'll start a thread... I don't want to talk about it too early cause I don't know if I'll be committed.
