well first we can see you want help so u dont have to post another reply on the same day. since your new here ill tell u about the search button. its up in the right hand corner and u basically search for what ever u need. here is a tutorial for custom skins by busterkinkade

Create a new map, copy the race you want to edit (example: republic) into the sides folder of the new map. Now go to assets/shell and copy all of the folders in it, but not the .req, then paste it in the _Build/shell folder in the newmap you created. Now Copy the “Common” folder from within the mod-tool “assets/sides” directory and place it in the sides folder of your new map, edit the texture, now, go into common > script > newmapname and open the LUA file named newmapnamec_con.lua (for me that was BS1c_con.lua ). Now if you look down the LUA file you will see ReadDataFile("SIDE\\rep.lvl", change this to ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\rep.lvl , then copy 2 .bat files in the side you got, these are: clean.bat and munge.bat , these can be aquired from the _BUILD > Sides > ALL in the newmap you created, then copy the 2 .bat files into the side in the mod tools you are modifying. Finally we munge the your new map (see Jedi Creation doc for more info) we select the new race in the drop down menu on the left, and select the race you edited (mine was rep) you alos have to tick the "common" check box, then munge!

P.S: You can get the race from the assets > sides folder !
P. P.S: The textures are in the msh of your copied side folder.

On another note, to get the skins working in all maps, not just the map you made, you simply need to follow my tutorial, then go in data_ABC\_LVL_PC\SIDE and copy the 2 .lvl files (for me these were rep.lvl and repshell.lvl) into the side of your SWBF II game.

Hope that helped!

Re: skin install

You need a skin editing program, such as the GIMP, I highly recommend it, its free and is open source, just open up the .tga file with the GIMP, or any other graphics program you may have, then simply edit it with the/a (and/or) Hue/Saturation tool (or Hue and Saturation tool, or any other tool like the paint bucket).

Ps The Textures Turn Black. This Guide Is Discouraged By Me

UnixPwnix July 16th, 2006 09:34 AM

Re: skin install

Well, of course that means you have changed the skin, it is certainly better then the skin not changing at all, and staying the same as it was shipped with the game.

Also if the skin has turned black this means that:

A) The .tga file of the model your changing has been deleted or has been saved as the wrong .tga file type or...

B) You have saved your skin as a different file type to .tga or it has been corupted.

Of course if you changed the skin of the model so it was completely black then what can you expect?

Re: skin install

how do i edit the textures???????? to install skins another guy made???????

Re: skin install

I posted a tutorial ,which works, on how to edit skins in this thread,

for your 2nd question, do u mean u want certain skins in all your maps?

cmdata July 17th, 2006 06:35 AM

Re: skin install

i mean, how do i change the textures??? in your toturial you wrote: edit the textures.... and i just wanna know, how do i do that??? i take the jpg skins and convert them to tga and switch them with the original??? or how??

Squirrel7Hunter July 17th, 2006 10:04 AM

Re: skin install

I still dont get what your saying.... the tutorial will let u change any skin for any unit u want, u pick which units u want to reskin and do it.

Re: skin install

let me explain it on a way you understand(hopefully) i have this file, rep_inf_ep3jettroper.tga, then i take this skin i want instead of the old one, i rename the first one, i take this new one called rep_inf_ep3jettrooper, then i put it on the firsts place, i put that dc: thing in the LUA, then i munge, only the rep and common is marked, then when its done i launch it, but the troopers i putted skins instead of is just completely no skinned, its completely white-grey

Squirrel7Hunter July 18th, 2006 05:33 AM

Re: skin install

I have never had that problem, but I'm pretty sure when that happens it means that the rep_inf_ep3jettrooper.odf is calling for a texture that is now renamed, if u renamed the tga. , you have to also rename the tga. the odf. calls for. Sorry if its hard to understand

cmdata July 18th, 2006 03:05 PM

Re: skin install

but i only have to change the .tgas in the msh folder right??? or is it in the .odf too??

UnixPwnix July 19th, 2006 12:26 PM

Re: skin install

Ok, if it turns up all black or all of another colour then just read my above post about why this maybe happening, just to recap the file is probably missing, renamed or a different file type if you are copying it, just copy the rep_inf_ep3jettrooper.tga or whatever, rename it to rep_inf_ep3trooper.tga and paste it back in the msh folder of your side, that is just a simple test to see if the skins works, ingame your standard republic infantry will look like jettroopers.

Re: skin install
