ODFs

I have a question about editing the odf files. How can I edit them without having to rename them? I use Notepad to edit them. I just want to know how you guys edit the ODFs since I'm a n00b when it comes to it seems. I understand how to edit them just this problem is preventing me to do so.

Yes you do edit them with notepad, or you can with wordpad.

I know that, but I have tried editing them in the sides folder in my map after importing the side into it and each time I try to save them I can't save the changes without making a new name for it. (I have the ODFs under properties open up in notepad, so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem.) I'll even get a pic. up for you to see when I get the chance this week.

Just press save not save as, if that doesn't work save to desktop and overwrite the one in your sides folder.

Or right click>properties>uncheck read only

But if Vista is involved here then disable the UAC in the control panel.

I'll try that since I've tried to use some of those edited ODF's before in a map and they did not work whatsoever. Thanks. I'll post here with the results.
