A fresh perspective? I am not sure if this is even against the rules of this forum but if it is I apologize in advance. I have however stumbled onto a game that I feel is..... well awesome & my goal here is just to get a little more recognition for the game from some other space rts fans. The game is called Starshatter The Gathering Storm, and let me tell you this game is amazing! It says right on the box that it was made to be moddable into ANY sci fi genre! (Star Trek, Bab5 , Star Wars, Wing commander etc..) It comes with its own mod menu in the game that allows you to easily disable and enable various mods and it comes with all its own modding tools. Apart from its ease in modding the game itself is amazing and features what they call a "dynamic campaign" which goes on in real time even while you are in the menus and while you yourself are in a misson, making it theoretically possible to lose the war even if you have won all the missons you participated in. It allows you to take on the role of a fighter pilot, starship commander or Admiral of the fleet in all FIVE dynamic campaigns. Each dynamic campaign is calculated by the AI and the state of the war at that moment in time so you will never play the same mission exactly as it was twice! As a fighter pilot you can take of right from the carrier bay or starbase bay and approach a planet go into its atmosphere, fly around on the planet doing air strikes then literally climb back into space and return for a landing on the carrier or starbase, or mabey more space operations. As a starship captain you obviously command a larger capital ship, but in a very cool unique way. You can pilot the ship yourself using either the keyboard, mouse or joystick, or you can let helm do the work and move by giving orders to the helm with nautical like headings. At any time you can give command to the first officer who will do a fantasic job and return with a "captain on the bridge" notification, which I personaly find cool. As an admiral you are in command of the carrier or starbase and its up to you to send and deploy fighter wings, destroyer & frigate groups and massive cruisers into batlle both in space and orbital fights in the theater of operations. The game has amazing graphichs and HUGE maps (takes about 40 min. in real time to cross)! Again I am simply trying to direct a little attention to this fantastic game in the hopes that someone will make a Star Trek dominion wars mod for it. If I have offended anyone or filefront in any way I apologize. Thank you for your time and consideration, Captain Julian Nova |
Re: A fresh perspective? Eh...and that game is...? |
Re: A fresh perspective? As it says above the game is Starshatter The Gathering storm. |
Re: A fresh perspective? Are you allowed to talk about other games here? or show some screenshots? I'd love to try and show some screenies but I dont want to offend anyone or break any rules. Also can anyone here anwser this question: "Can the Legacy models be coverted to a .3ds or .obj versions? If so... something could be done in Starshatter with them." This question was asked of me, but I dont know the answer, does anyone here? Thanks again. |
Re: A fresh perspective? Seriously is there no one who can awnser these questions??! Or am I just being ignored? |
Re: A fresh perspective? Okay, I will answer you questions: Unfortunately there is now Importer for STL M3D files, so you can't port Legacy ships over to other games. Perhaps Moonraker can finish his Importer; if he was succesful you can import the model to Milkshape and Export to 3DS. What concerns me I do not know whether this is allowed, but I think the FF Staff won't kill you if it is not allowed. I personnally won't buy the game for the first, because I am quite busy with finishing the BC campaign and Modding Legacy. |
Re: A fresh perspective? Wasn't that game for free? |
Re: A fresh perspective? Remember that porting stock Legacy ships to other games using the Importer when and if it is released is an EULA breach, and as such constitutes an illegal activity. This is not however in effect if you created the ship or have permission from the author. |
Re: A fresh perspective? Ist it also an EULA breach if I create a kitbash for Legacy Files? |

Re: A fresh perspective? if you take a uncomercial model (like one from bc) and port it to legacy (with the permission of the author) it's not illegal but if you steal the stock models it is illegal ^_^ |

Re: A fresh perspective? Yeah, but it seemed that gdata did not get it, so i said it again ;) |
Re: A fresh perspective? Now I got it! |
Re: A fresh perspective? Well i tried the demo-version and must say... to be honest...it sucks hard..... a nice try but far from a good game -.-'' |

Re: A fresh perspective? the original is free and does suck, the one Iam playing is newer and I think it rocks, as I said up above I certainly dont want to break any rules, or anger anyone. As for the porting question, that was asked of me over at the games forums and so I just thought I would ask for them thats all. |

Re: A fresh perspective? ok i changed my mind ^_^ i am playing the demo-version and i must say if you got the controls it is quite fun to play even if there ara many things that could easily be done 100times better ;) |
Re: A fresh perspective? Yes well, hopefully thats where the fabulous modders step in, but its sheer modding potential is Un believable and the is a BSG mod for it coming out at the end of april wich is supposed to be amazing. I simply cant imagine the trek mod possibilitys for this game. you could pilot a peregrine or venture class shuttles as a fighter pilot or command a starship or command a starbase and the whole battle group. The possibilities are endless, the game just needs more attention. |
Re: A fresh perspective? I don't think that there will be FF Site like ST Legacy Files. But if there were a site, I would buy the game! |
Re: A fresh perspective? yeah I dont think their will be either, but their should be! lol You should try it if you have the chance though, I think there is a demo, but its not as good. Oh and you have to give it a chance... play it for a couple minitues...lol Anyway, thanks. |
Re: A fresh perspective? I have just learned that it is possible to do city and planet textures in Starshatter TGS! This means you could do a n invasion of carassia map and have of course a large battle in space, but you could opt to take a fighter shuttle right out of the shuttle bay off a ship fly it through the space battle, break orbit and fly around in cardassia city for air borne ops then return to space! I truly hope someone will consider doing a Star Trek mod for this game as it's modding potential is incrediable to say the least! |
Re: A fresh perspective? I don't think anyone will, because Moonraker says he won't finish his importer... |
Re: A fresh perspective? the game comes with its own modeling & modding programs. It wouldnt take to much to simply remake the ships instead of trying to import. What's more in that I am not trying to "push" this game on anyone, I just own both legacy and Starshatter and I am coming to you from the perspective of another gamer. Legacy is great, and with the mods its even better. I love my copy of legacy, but the cold hard fact is that starshatter can do more. Its not that it is a "better" game persay its just that it is capable of so much with relativly little effort needed to mod or change it compared to the efforts made in modding legacy. This game can allow you to re-live any Star trek battle in its totality from starship combat to planet engagements. Someone else has figured out a way to include economy as well so you can trade now. Its just limitless, what can be done and if an importer is all that stands in the way of that, then it is a great shame. Star trek gamers have been calling for a deceent title for years and many did not think that legacy lived up to its hype. Now as much as I love legacy, this game, Starshatter TGS, was a game that was made to be modded into others, and can deliver every aspect of the star trek universe (save hand to hand phaser combat). It is an option that should be considered by all space rts fans, thats all. At any rate I thank you for your time and considerations thank you. |

Just to let ya'all know, An amazing Battlestar Galactica mod has been realesed and is playable for Starshatter TGS. I would highly recommend it if your a Battlestar Galactica TNS fan. |
i just DONT see the need at all for an importer. |
OK, as I said above the game comes with its own modding programs. These are direct quotes from the games manual in it mod section: "Starshatter TGS is a space simulation mod designer's dream platform. Because Starshatter TGS was designed from the ground up to support so many different play styles - from space fighter combat to aiborne strike to starship battles to fleet tactical encounters. You can use it to create mods for just about any popular science fiction universe that you like. Creating a mod could be as simple as importing some new ship models editing a few text files that define some ship and mission parameters and running the game."- PG 102 "Magic Modeling Program- This is the current version of the low polygon count modeling tool that was used to create all the ships buildings and stations in the game. All three dimensional artwork in Starshatter TGS must be contained in proprietary format .MAG files that are the native file format for the magic modeling program. Magic is also able to IMPORT meshes in Wavefront/OBJ and discreet/3DS file formats. Magic can also save meshes in OBJ/MTL format for export to third party rendering tools." - PG 103 So as you can see the game is REALLY everyone's dream. I beg you guy's, and file front to give it a chance. It is absolutely amazing and could be the greatest Star Trek mod and game to date. I know this because I have the BGS TNS mod mentioned above and I have seen what they can do. I will continue to try and generate intrest for this game as I feel it deserves it, I just wish there was a Star Trek mod to advertise to you guys. Then ya might give it a try:P. But again the game is incrediable and comes with its own in game mission editor as well so fans can create their own missions with the mods made. |
