I don't like the Enterprise song. I prefere Star Trek music to be in the same category.

Perhaps, but it doesn't fit into the Star Trek universe. At least not as the theme song anyway.

Though everywhere else, there's nothing wrong with it - well, I don't like it, but have no problem with it - in the Star Trek world, putting that track as the theme tune is just as bad, in my opinion, as putting German heavy metal music as the title.

As for the song writers not trying to take a stab at what popular music they may listen to in the 24th century, I may be wrong but McCoy's bar sequence at the beginning of Star Trek 3 had some sort of techno-music playing in the background, didn't it?

I think it is good that they listen to classical music mostly. This shows that they are well educated. Classic is now 300 years old. And everyone remembers Mozart and Beethoven. In 300 years noone will remember punk or metal. It is just not essential and not important. Classic will be important forever.

Heh, that said, in two hundred years time, Britney Spears may only be listened to by 'educated' and 'culturally enlightened' people, and considered a classic artist.

There is no way to ignore the Opening to the orignal series. Even people who havent seen the show for 20 years (Yes, That long ago!!) can still remember the show just from a few bars on the opening music....
