Ok everyone, the point of this thread is like a star fleet training center. You will get something like what I post below, and then you guys post an answer to the question "what would you do?" as if you where the captain. There is no right or wrong answers, you must do what you think is right. Just keep it realistic, and follow the scenario, you can not cheat your way out of it like kirk did. And so the trial begins-

Kobayashi Maru Scenario: Sickness, and its maker….

You are in command of a nova class scout ship, tasked with finding out the where about of a federation medical ship that went missing in this star system two days ago. There are several M class planets they could have crash landed on. Once you find out where they are, your orders are to contact star fleet to send several ships to help evacuate the crew and its special contents...

On board the medical ship, there was a large group of children infected with a rare super flu, which turns out to be a bio weapon the klingons tested on their home planet, and need treatment at the nearby star base, there is enough room on your ship to carry all of the kids. The data collected from them could save millions of lives, and they won’t have a chance of survival if they are stuck for one more day. And also was and computer filled with many files about what the star fleet medical crops have learned in the past 40 years. With huge amounts of secret data stored on it, the Klingons would find this extremely useful.

You locate the ship, and send a team down to the planet to meet them. Once you do, your scanners pick up a large, and heavily armed klingon fleet headed towards the system. They will most likely be look for the medical ship. And they will be in range of your ship in a minute.

You are very quickly running out of time, you only have time for one transport, and then you must leave the system, or face a fleet of klingon warships. You can transport the computer aboard, or the children, or your away team, which is made up of your chief medical officer, and first officer. Once you leave you cannot return, and the klingons will take who ever, and whatever you leave behind. If you send for help, the very few, and lightly armed federation ships that would arrive would be destroyed. And if you don’t leave in the next 60 seconds, you will be destroyed as well…..

What do you do?

Cool Re: The Kobayashi Maru Training room

Simple. I would beam the children up and order the away team to stay behind and destroy the computer to prevent the Klingons from getting their hands on the data. Then, I would immediately leave the system. As a Captain, I have a responsibility to the ship and my crew, so doing this would be a logical thing to do. "The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few or the one". If I have to choose between saving the large group of children or saving two of my Officers, I choose the children. Besides, every Starfleet Officer would give his/her life to save a child. As for the computer data; we'd just have to manage without them. 40 years of medical research is alot, but I would not sacrifice the lives of an innocent children to save a machine. And I certainly wouldn't let such valuable informations fall into an enemy hands. If the Federation survived without those informations so far, it certainly won't die without them. Besides, there's always a possibility that some kind of backup exists somewhere. Perhaps the Doctors and Scientists who worked on them are still alive and remember the data.

P.S.
This is a what would you do thread. Please post only that - what would you do in the given scenario. Don't flame someone if you disagree with his/her solution. If you wish to comment someone's post, please do it in a polite and respectful manner. Remember; this thread is just for fun. This is not a serious discussion, so don't take what other people say seriously. Doing so will most likely resoult in an argument and I will not allow that. Thank you.

I would save the computer, with the data from 40 years of research would benefit more federation citizens than just a group of kids of a few of my officers.

Whilst it requires such a large sacrifice, Tricorder's action is very commendable and noble. Very well thought out I might add.

Thinking about it, the chances of a backup copy of the 40 year old database isnt really that far fetched. I would imagine that the scientists would have had thought of doing that somewhere along the line.

I would do what Tricorder said though before warping away I would unload all of the torps that I had(from a distance ofcourse since they are a distance weapon) on the the bigger Klingon ships. Atleast try to disable/destroy as many as I can.
