| In the end it would come down to the commanding officer of the ship. They are both exactly the same. Length, height, weapons, power output etc. Only Difference is crew experience and the like. |

| Same ship…different registries and the Sovereign was the prototype. At any rate, in game (SFCIII) I made the Enterprise “version” a little tougher then the standard Sovereigns BB.

| I've moved this thread to the general star trek forum mainly because it doesn't really belong in the bridge commander section

| I think realistically, the Enterprise-E would stand a better chance (be it not a very sizable one) when compared to the Sovereign. From what we know of Trek (and what we often like to believe) is that the first commissioned ship holds the name of that class. IE, the USS Defiant is a Defiant Class, the USS Galaxy is a Sovereign Class, the USS Intrepid is an Intrepid Class, etc. Based on that, the Sovereign would have been the prototype, the test bed if you like..? Now, everything that is going to go wrong with the Sovereign Class (within fairness) would have happened to the Sovereign. The purpose of her was to test everything, making sure it was all good for the go-ahead on other ships of her class. The Enterprise would have came out of dock with all the upgrades, all the gadgets, and all of her problems solved. If you put the Sovereign against the Enterprise upon their respective launches, then the win would go to the Enterprise (the Sovereign may not even have phasers that fire properly). If you change the setup, so they fight at the same time (same stardate) etc, it'll be a close match, and probably down to the captain yeah. In regards to their size, capabilities etc, that is nonsense. The two ships are practically identical. PS: you friend sounds like a 5yr old. Does common sense not strike him?

The ships themselves however, so far as we know, are exactly the same. Quote:
If the Sovereign has been commissioned and placed on active duty (and we don't even know for sure if she even exists, let alone if she has been commissioned, for she has never appeared anywhere in canon), you can safely assume that she's been put through more tests than a university student, and has been upgraded/repaired accordingly. She's no more likely to breakdown than the Enterprise. Use the USS Excelsior as an example if you like - despite all the problems she had during development, she was fully-operational and armed for battle by the time of Star Trek VI, and was possibly still in active service even by the TNG/DS9 era. Quote:
With the Federation of course we can never be certain what equipment any particular ship is carrying, as only the godships of the series are really covered in any great detail and even then the inventory tends to change as the script dictates. We can only assume that the Sovereign and the Enterprise are of similar or identical specifications, as this is generally typical of Starfleet ship classes (with notable exceptions). Certainly they are both the same size (even if the Enterprise was a 'few feet longer', I don't see what difference that would really make - your five-year-old suggestion may have been right, Aerilon!), with the same structural configuration and internal layout. Both will likely have the same type of warp core, armaments and shield grid, as we've not seen anything in past Federation ship classes to call those into question. To cut a long, geeky story short: if Picard commands the Enterprise, the Enterprise would win. If Picard commands the Sovereign, the Sovereign will win. And as Paramount no doubt plans to let the TNG era, and all the canon that comes with it, rest in peace from now on, neither of them will ever fight anything again.
