Does anyone else think that the soundtrack of this movie is awesome? I've been listening to it for 2 days now, it is the best movie soundtrack I've heard in a long, long time.

It was covered with retro-fitted borg tech to suit Romulan designs being held in a secret Romulan facility(The Vault) after the Hobus Star(not Romulus Star) goes boom.
Ya think that might have been useful information that maybe should have been oh I dont know...mentioned in the movie?

No because that's the sort of thing that would make this film into your typical average Trek film that only Trek fans watch, and not the blockbuster that will hopefully revive Trek into something we can enjoy more often than 90 minutes once every 5 years. The extra information and comics etc are there for the people that care, but no it's not really all that relevant as far as I'm concerned.

There's a big nasty ship. Whatever it is, it has Romulans on it. They're travelled back in time by accident. They're pretty much insane and/or evil and their ship is obviously much newer and much more powerful than any 'current' ship.

We can nitpick all we want but do we really need to know more than that? Adding a load of trek-technobabble would have just ruined the pacing of the film.

This coming from someone who owns 3 different editions of the Star Trek encyclopedia as well as the TNG and DS9 technical manuals and a number of other books, so I do 'care' about this stuff, but it has it's place and this film wasn't that place.

That area was HUUUUGEEEE!!!!, especially when you see that the Shuttle Bay looked like it took up most of the engineering hull.
Apparently the "new" Enterprise is just under the size of a Star Destroyer...which explains the size of the interior

Maybe because Vulcan no longer exists? That planet has been a main focus of all previous Trek shows, and is no longer around. How would they tie this up? Like FancyPants said, they needed to do something BIG to distinguish this universe from the current one, thus defining it as a reboot rather than a prequel (so to speak).

After Romulus blew up the had a massive refit (i mean massive) which made it look like this:http://img.trekmovie.com/images/comics/ente_narada.jpg
I can't see how one can become the other. What did they do? Inject Octopuses and Steroids into the Hull?

Annoying isn't it? There doesn't seem to be any information anywhere on those other ships.

Klingons (like already mentioned) have been done to hell and back, especially throughout the TMP movies. However, this is a new universe, new experiances, new Klingons.

It would be nice to see another though. Tholians or Gorn would be good, or maybe the Xindi? Wouldn't bet on seeing the Breen though, they're not 'known' enough (even in DS9). If they went onto them, then Starfleet would probably have a lot more info on them by the time the Dominion War struck.

That is something I'm not so sure about. The Romulan Homeworld is gone, so Nero 'spices up' a Mining Ship to take on Spock? Surely he'd have known of some old(ish) Romulan ships lying about somewhere, which would be more... suitable for the job?

Heck, if most of the Empire was using the Norexan Warbird (ST:Nemesis), Nero could have grabbed himself a D'Deridex. Pop that out of a Black Hole next to the Kelvin, we'd have seen how big the new Starfleet ship was then at least.

Somehow I don't see a mining ship captain having access to a military vessel, certainly not some kind of Warbird. Especially if the Romulans were doing their traditional isolation/military consolidation, which after that sort of event wouldn't surprise me while they rebuilt their civilisation away from Romulus/Remus.

The original was equipped with a romulan/ borg experimental device which the romulans planned to use in future vessels. this device literally changed the appearance of the ship (as already seen). Anyways the original ship probably only made up the center/core of the end result. So ya the refitted version was quite a bit bigger then the original minning vessel.

borg tech= octopuses and steroids

I agree that Nero would have had a hard time finding a Romulan Warship but then he also seemed to have no problem going to a Romulan experimental weapons lab and equipping his ship with state of the art weapons and technology.

The background info on Nero may not have been needed for the big screen (Which I respectfully disagree with) but it would be a big draw for a directors cut Blue Ray edition.

A little spammy, but I thought this report about the reception was Star Trek was quite funny:
