Default The Collective Vs The Assembly

Borg vs Tholians here Boys and Girls, and I'd like to know who your money would be on. Seeing as the Tholians aren't 'Humanoid', I have my doubts as to whether they can actually be Assimilated. There is also the slight problem, that the Tholians live in extremely hot temperatures, something that isn't so on a Borg Cube.

I've also pondered how a Cube would react / suffer at the hands of the Tholian Web. If successfully connected, would a Cube be able to resist destruction, or would it meet its bitter end?

We know also that Tholian ships tend to be rather small, therefore, they could probably hold out against a Cube, by jolting about quite a bit, missing a Cubes Torpedoes (Energy Beams would be a different matter mind).

But yeah... your thoughts?

Default Re: The Collective Vs The Assembly

Given the length of time that a web takes to set up, it relies on there either being a large number of ships available to complete the web, or that the target ship is disabled as the original Enterprise was (and therefore can't escape or destroy the ships while the web is being 'spun').

As far as I can remember, the Tholians have never shown any technology that is significantly superior to any other major race. Although we know very little - if anything - about 'modern' Tholians, given their technological similarity to the other races during other time periods I imagine a Borg cube could quite easily tear a fleet of Tholian vessels apart long before they had the opportunity to complete a web, just like they could with the Federation (e.g. Wolf 359, and First Contact) - at least until the Voyager series seemed to even the odds a bit.

Dunno. We don't know enough about Tholians, either in the past or the present, to make any real determination one way or the other. At a guess, I would say the Borg would win - but that's purely down to their own propaganda about 'adapting' and suchlike. I really missed the Tholians in TNG era, though, there should have been more focus on them.

I'm thinking the Borg would win if even just by weight of numbers though it seems likely they would also be technologically superior since the Tholians haven't conquered the civilisations around them.

When it comes down to it they don't need to assimilate, they just need to blow their ships to pieces. The Borg normally only have a problem if they can't assimilate or destroy the ships - i.e. Species 8472 who resisted assimilation and had technology that rivalled that of the Borg, if not exceeded it.
