| Which Red Dwarf were you refering too!!!, Ive found out that the original design had cutbacks which led to the vessel becoming vasty inferior to what it should have been read this Following reconstruction by the nanobots, Red Dwarf reverted to its pre-cut-backs state, which included a quark-level matter/anti-matter generator and a karaoke bar. They also rebuilt the top secret prison facility on floor 13. Transcribed from the original Red Dwarf JMC publicity video, hosted by Bing Baxter: Owned by the Jupiter Mining Corporation and crewed by the Space Corps, Red Dwarf is fully five miles long - that's five miles long! See this? This is the 'scoop,' it sucks hydrogen from the currents of space and converts it into fuel. But I don't need to blind you with science, this baby sells itself. Sure it has a small moon imbedded on its underside, but hey, it just adds character! The ship also features a fully operational metro system - running both inside and outside the ship - and has the provisional power to generate one hologramatical human, right back from the dead! This ship features a full compliment of accommodation for its 1,169 crew members - twin bunks or twin singles for the majority of the crew, and look at this - the captain's quarters features a double bed! Mmn, naughty... Officers' quarters are naturally far superior to the technicians' - there's no need for the achievers to slum it! But we also have the very best in leisure facilities - bars, restaurants, night-clubs and cinemas. If it's a just snack you're after, try any one of these cheery dispensing machines, or drop in to the refectory any time! As well as teaching and exam rooms for the officer looking to better himself, the well-stocked medical unit comes complete with quarantine facilities - perfect for those tricky contagious diseases! There's even an observation deck for those who want to get a little closer to space. Whoops - be careful near that Plexiglas! The difficulties of travelling through deep space are amply provisioned as well - Red Dwarf features a main drive room, a scanning room, cargo and storage decks, diesel decks, a photo lab plus various docking bays and a network of supply pipes and ductways. So what are you waiting for? This is the next generation of mining craft - get one in orbit today! This tech sounds awfully familliar to earths in trek. Even if it does suffer from hull breaches it would still take considerable firepower to bring one down if you were trying to disable it as it could fly into any nearby planet and kill lots. From reading this I would suggest the 2060's as a comparable era due to the MARA that she has and the bussard collectors she has at the front of the ship Quantum torps for quickest kill and have my 20 ship estimate for this ships destruction as 2150's era ships. I really wanted to see which one would come out better in a ramming competition RD or the KP(kazon pred) |

| I did'nt write it, anycase Red Dwarf is hardly serious, you're right though the smallest moon i've heard of is 1 of jupiters I think which is 8km in diameter. Perhaps it is PART of a small moon that RD took with it. Boarding RD would be dangerous as there are weapons, security, convicts and the canarys aboard also a T-Rex , polimorphs and scutters. That quote came from the official red dwarf site endorsed by doug drexler http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/ |

| Quote:
There is a massive diffrence between Deflectors and sheilds, Gene Roddenberry himself made that clear. Would you want to go into battle with no sheilds just deflectors? Also Sheilds take up more energy than the defector. The Deflector can be used to stop primitive lasers from hitting the ship like in that early episode of TNG cant remember the name. But anythink more than that and the sheilds would be needed. The Deflector can only protect the ship from debris up to a certain size as well, to protect the ship from bigger objects such as the Yamato saucer section or asteroids the sheilds would be needed as we saw in contagion.
