First Contact with the Klingons

I always wondered when did actualy the first contact with the Klingons happen. I remember Picard talking about a catastrophical first contact with the Klingons which lead to war. Butt in Enterprise the Klingons are already there and there dosenīt seem to be a war going on. So did I miss something or what????

Well... In a sense, at the time of "Enterprise" there was no Federation. We don't know if Picard was on about the first Federation meeting with the Klingons, or the first Starfleet meeting with them.

The "Federation" doesn't exist until the end of Enterprise. There was probably something between ENT & TOS.

What episode did Picard mention this?

I've always believed that first contact with Klingons led to multiple hostile skirmishes/incursions which would continue for many years to come, and that it wasn't until TOS: "Errand of Mercy" where things began to escalate to war.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

i think ... we can all agree that "enterprise" was the biggest BULLS**T ever made in the star trek franchise ... so why even bother with it ... i have to admit that i've seen all episodes of ENT ... but when it comes down to it ... this was just another timeline none ever wanted to happen!
