Enterprise may have a chance

My Mom was listening to the radio today and heard that someone (She forgets who, probably the Save Enterprise Campaign) was willing to pay $3 million to the Sci-Fi channel for them to take the show from UPN.

I'm hoping that this works out because the show has really been picking up this last season.

Covenant reckons that this will come to nothing. Probably a good thing.

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

Please let it die... they've already hinted at the possibility of a new series in a couple of years, probably minus at least one of the B&Bs. Let them see if they can't redeem themselves instead of resurrecting this abomination...

I can guarantee you that fans campaigning will achieve nothing. Farscape had a considerably stronger 'bring it back!' movement after it was cancelled, and all they got for their troubles were two feature-length episodes to tie up loose ends. Enterprise has enough warning so that there won't be sufficient 'loose ends' to tie up. I hate to compare Enterprise to something good like Farscape, but the situation is similar.
Businessmen don't care about the DEDICATION of fans, they care about the QUANTITY of fans. There aren't enough Enterprise fans. Farscape didn't attract many new viewers because of the sheer complexity of its stories, and the extensive character development. If you joined in half-way through a series, you would be utterly confused as to what was going on. Enterprise on the other hand is pretty basic, and lacks fans because it's crap. If you let them move on to a new project rather than try to keep this dead cow from falling over, they might come up with a good program instead! Certainly couldn't get any worse!

I think the campaign to resurect Enterprise should end now
How ever

The campaign to resurrect Trek should begin now with a hard first of emails and letters

Let them know we didn't like enterprise but WE NEED STAR TREK....

Try watching ENTs fourth season (Europe hasn't gotten it yet) I think you will find it's a great show and worth saving.

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

No...It might have redeamed it's self but once you go wrong with a show it has a smell. And It's hard getting rid of a 4 year stench...Too difficult..

It always be known as that bad Trek seris...

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

actualy that would be deep space "teh ghey" nine. enterprise was fun to whatch, regardless of some various discrepencies i had...

i also feel enterprise is being ended FAR too early. the enterprise movie coming soon will be showing the beginning of the human/romulan conflict. enterprise should start again, showing the meat of this wartime period (however not showing an end to the conflict). this would be the more apropiate way to end the series, IMO.

a matter of taste.

Unless it features Captain Archer waking up onboard the SS Daedalus, rubbing his eyes and saying 'wow, that was a neat dream!' then it still isn't worth saving regardless of how many explosions and naked T'Pol scenes they manage to cram into the forth season.

Speculation. And I don't particularly fancy them ruining the Earth/Romulan war as well.

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

Manny Coto said that the season finale did NOT involve time travel, so having the beginnings of the Earth-Romulus war maybe in it...

Season 4 is much, much, much better than all the rest of the season's put together... you should really watch it... they're tying up a lot of loose ends in it, such as Dr. Soong's ideas for androids, Klingon forehead issues, and the forming of the Federation, and that's just so far...

call me an idiot... but who's dream are we talking about? Roddenberry's?

IMHO, i thought that season 4 is picking up a LOT... maybe because they're fixing the timeline :)

Dursk March 3rd, 2005 05:31 PM

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

Roddenberry in every seris expressly avoided telling tales of War
He skipped the Romulan War...He avoided ,purposely, War EVER with the Klingons, The Kelvans, Tolians. In TNG the Cardassian War had already taken place.

War never brings out good...he considered it a Darkness even good can not emerge from.

blurb23 March 3rd, 2005 06:10 PM

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

lol, so THAT'S why in TNG we almost NEVER EVER saw any weapons fire!

And here we have what Enterprise was trying to accomplish. Put in some explosions and half-naked women, and bang, you completely disregard your previous fanbase and bring in a whole new, less demanding fanbase.

Der Sturmbannführer March 4th, 2005 12:08 PM

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

no, what made enterprise lacking is how it made thecnologies that seemed more advance than what was in TOS, and some lacking graphics IMO... half-naked woman was not straying from the path of star trek. those girls you see in TOS were very controiversial at the time, so in comparison to what we see now, we should be seeing naked women... as for explosions and what not, yeah those were actualy lacking a bit too... enterprise isnt the worst thing to happen to star trek, even though it had some things to work out... but ds9 on the other hand, that gay hippy soap opera crap-fest is a trotal disgrace to star trek, i myself refus to accept its official involvment in the star trek timeline...

blurb23 March 4th, 2005 12:33 PM

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

DS9 was probably effected the timeline the most out of all of the series... you can't just disregard the Dominion War... besides, it was pretty good overall...
why do you call it "that gay hippy soap opera crap-fest"?

Dursk March 4th, 2005 12:46 PM

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

Knowing a little more as I do...The girls in TOS were always "suggestively" dressed and nothing inappropriate to views was ever seen... That was also Genes objective...Not to offend others who watch the show but stand up for human rights...

Homosexuality may be a human right but it's not inalienalble
or necessity of life such as freedom...That has to do with freedom of choice....

Everyone has there own Opinion on that of course

Dreadnought[DK] March 5th, 2005 04:01 PM

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

the 'half-naked' women of TOS were controversial at their time because the norms of the society were the way they were back then. the half-naked women of enterprise have absolutely nothing to do with any intellectual discussion of social themes such as sexual liberation, women's rights, civil rights or any of those issues. enterprise shows flesh because they hope to up the ratings.

DS9 showed how families (and humans) dealt with situations in roddenberry's visionary future. roddenberry created a better future for mankind and DS9 showed how life is in that future and how people deals with extreme situations (and i'm not only talking about war).
if you want explosions and big battles, i suggest you watch band of brothers instead. star trek is not about war but about lives.

Wise beyond his years....is he not Guyver....

Since when are vulcans so promiscuous....
The vulcans in the motion picture were in robbes...true it was cerimony
The did show variations in vulcans in ToS some beautifull, or ugly bald and soforth...
Some were clothed like real women but please...Going to work in a cat suit....

You could justify that with the regeneration suit for Seven but T pol must have been very uncomfortable....it was nothing hitting a proffesional

Vulcan males wear robes... females? Catsuits... now where is the logic in that?

Re: Enterprise may have a chance

Yeah and if mind melding with another person other than a family member was abhorent as Spock suggested...Then getting naked with no inhibition like T pol did every chance she got really flies in the face of what makes Trek...

It's not SEX TREK>>>>>STAR TREK

well while we saw it as sexual, look at in in the context of what she was doing... taking a shower/clensing... also when she did do stuff in front of others, she felt very uncoftable, and she also began overcoming her "vulcaness" and becoming more "human" with her emotions as the series went on... she was not ur average vulcan...

He calls it that because it involved a good deal of character development, something sorely lacking in Enterprise and thus proving my point (it also included a lot of stories in the first half of the series that didn't all end with explosions! ). When Jadzia Dax died, for instance, people cared -- she was a fleshed-out character with depth, a personality, and a long, well-covered life story. When one of the hollow zombies of Enterprise dies, few people will care. Mainly because the people watching will be more interested in the explosion which killed the character than the actual death of the character, but there you go.

kinda sucked that Jadzia was the only person who could really die, without having any major problems to deal with... she'd just live on, in another body...

but, back to Enterprise... hopefully that $3 million might convince UPN as to just how serious we are

It would take the whole $41.6 million it costs to produce a season (a full one).

The show costs $1.6 million per episode to produce... so far the trekunited campaign has only raised the dough to produce two more episodes.

film cost
lighting
costumes
oh god I could go on
