Rock on Janeway.
What, you never saw I, Borg? Geordi did that long before Voyager was commissioned. The only difference was that Hugh didn't become a crew member, but rather rejoined the Collective, with somewhat disastrous results (Descent).

Janeway actually had a Borg become part of her crew, set free a bunch of drones (who will probably now have control because of the effects of Endgame), AND had her ship survive how many encounters with the Borg? all alone? no assistance?

in other words...

W00T! go janeway!

Ah yes.
Nevermind the Enterprise-D's first contact with the Borg at System J-25.
Nevermind Enterprise-D's solo stand against the Borg cube in Sol, or the Enterprise-E's campaign against the Borg queen in First Contact.

Let's be honest, Seven of Nine's removal from the Collective was nothing more than a rehash of Third of Five's removal. The only difference is that Third of Five was reintroduced to the Collective, since nobody was leaving TNG's cast.

Not to denigrate Janeway; she's tied with Kirk for my second choice. But merely citing her efforts with Seven as being proof-positive as the best Starfleet captain is rather lacking. It would be a much better argument to point out that she managed to get back to Federation space from the Delta Quadrant in one piece.

Nice connection. +5 geek points for you (though I would've used Tolwyn instead of Alex).

There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening.

Tolwyn doesn't love the old Ultra Violence... Alex does... and besides Kirk being owned by Alex (and not Tolwyn) is infinitely more... fitting

Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

right, right... all good points...

but you cant really count First Contact, because if you count that, then you have to count ALL of the encounters Voyager had with the Borg... the E-E was only up against 1 heavily damage cube and a couple hundreds drones... Voyager was practically up against the entire collective (a VERY dumbed collective though)

but, if you want me to argue that she got back from the DQ, i will what did Picard do that could possibly counter this? Janeway and her crew did a lot of work with slipstream and transwarp, got a few new weapons (Isokinetic canon, Nanoprobes, etc.) and ran into a temporal anamoly every other week!

True enough, but Wing Commander is my First Love amongst games.

@blurb~ What did Picard do? Oh, very little really... he only saved humanity, after all.

I picked Kirk from the list given.
Why? Well, he was the archetype. Same goes with the crew that surrounded him.
As for write-in nommenies, I liked Ed Jellico (played by Ronny Cox in the "Chain of Command" two-parter. One of my fave BTW.
