Re: Who's your favorite captain? Janeway for sure... she's pretty damn determined, wont be swayed away from her opinion, wont compromise unless neccessary, and isnt afraid to use her weapons (unlike Picard) |

My intent was to get all who captained an Enterprise mentioned: Robert April commanded the Enterprise on her first five-year voyage. The only known picture of him is actually a very young Gene Roddenberry in an old Starfleet uniform :) Christopher Pike we should all know from The Menagerie as Enterprise' second captain. John Harriman, as you correctly guessed, captained the Enterprise-B. Little is known of him or his ship's missions, short of their brief appearance at the beginning of Generations. Rachel Garrett, who commanded the Enterprise-C, is better remembered, both for the mention her ship receives in the defence of Narenda III, as well as it's appearance in Yesterday's Enterprise and the establishment of Sela's heritage in Redemption. Riker makes the list merely because All Good Things established him to have taken command of the Enterprise-D following Picard's retirement in that timeline (whether or not you believe it depends on which canon you choose to follow). Matt Decker commanded the Constellation, not Enterprise. Will was an omission on my part. Scotty isn't known to have ever held a command of his own (at least, not in Starfleet), and as such wasn't on my list. Sulu was, to anyone's best knowledge, a fine captain. But Enterprise Excelsior was not. At any rate, that was my line of thought in offering my (two short!) list of other candidates who failed to receive mention. No sense in listing every Starfleet captain, now is there? |
Re: Who's your favorite captain? Scotty did get the Genolan, in the TNG episode where the Enterprise gets trapped inside the Dyson sphere... i still dont see why more people arent going with Janeway...she was better in all aspects from Picard... good diplomatic skills (she had a treaty with the Borg!), not afraid and do some hand-to-hand combat herself, and wasnt afraid to fire her weapons |
Re: Who's your favorite captain? I think Riker is the best captain :p He showed great command ability. I liked the fact that he was willing to take on the Borg cube and bring down Locutus, even tho it was Picard . . . I found that admirable instead of what I thought was going to happen, that they wouldn't attack it and just try to save the captain . . . instead they did both :D He had the maneuvers down, as shown in Insurrection, he could think of unique solutions to a problem and execute it perfectly . . . . and my favorite part was to my recolection neither Janeway, nor Picard (which were my number 2, and number 3 choices) ever physically did anything, but often Riker just said, "I'll take it from here ensign" and took over the console. I found that awesome that he would actually get into the action rather than just sit and watch from his cushy little lazy boy . . . . |
Re: Who's your favorite captain? Kirk for me, everyone. Mainly for his combat prowess both hand to hand and in the command chair. Although Kirk did his share of negotiating as well. Balance of Terror has to be one of my favorite episodes of all time. None of the other captains can "get" the women like Kirk can either. Favorite character in Star Trek(captain or otherwise) is Spock. |

Re: Who's your favorite captain? Ok people, lets try to remember that this thread is about captains from Star Trek. I've already had to remove a couple of posts by people that insist on posting about captains that have nothing to do with the Star Trek franchise. Please stay on topic. |
Re: Who's your favorite Star Trek captain? ok, the best captain was Sisko. How can you guys not see that? He is the only one who could actually fight and he was loved by the Bajorans and respected by Humans. I just love how he could beat the hell out of a Jem Hadar.... |
Re: Who's your favorite Star Trek captain? God, you people Janeway pwn3d them all. She took a borg and made it an individiual again, She wanted the peaceful way but wasn't afraid to get out there and fight either. On top of it all she was a woman and still thouroughly respected as much as any guy. Rock on Janeway. |
