Adding Ships
 
Can anyone tell me how to install a new ship in to sfc3 i got the Prometheus ship off sfc3files.com and i dont know how to install it can someone tell me please?

Read the file directions. Follow 'em, it should work. If other problems arise, post again and we'll see what we can do.

Here's my Problem:
 
OK. Here is my problem in a nutshell:

1. Got the Prometheus, New Orleans, Steamrunner, and am working on the Ambassador-class downloads.
2. Followed all directions included.
3. Game now only works occasionally, and when it does it is completely FUBAR'ed (ie: I am in the FED campaign and when I am trying to conduct mission there is no enemy and my Defiant has no weapons, nor does my Prometheus.)
4. Game doesn't work more often than it does. When it doesn't work it stops responding after trying to load the conquest campaign and/or gives me an error message.

I have removed all of the offending material and the stuff still doesn't work. What Happened??? Please Help!

did u makwe a backup of the files u edited.

most ships and mods dont tell u to make backups, i am one of the few that do.

if u did make a backup replace the fils u ediyted with the backups.


if not you will have to re-install sfc3.

Something must have happened to your defaultloadout file. No weapons indicates a defaultload problem.

Very interesting.

Do you have the beta patch? Mods installed?

Yeah, I do have the beta patch, and have not since added any of my cool ships that I have lying around in the shipyard...but I think that the game would (obviously) want to take out the best ship that the rules allow. But since there is no AI coding lines, there is no way for it to do that. If anyone could help me out, I'd be eternally grateful!!

OK, new problem. Having re-installed the game a third time, I have added ships one at a time. The first to get the honor was the New Orleans-class, and it worked fine, because it was placed in the CustomLoadOut and is a variant (in my game) of the Intrepid. She works fine and is an excellent ship. The next ship to be attempted was the Prometheus. Again, success was the result, and someone better refit her, because she needs one hell of a Warp Core. Anyway, the third ship to be installed, was my Ambassador. Can we say complete failure? I knew we could! So she didn't work, so I ditched it. The final ship to be recomed was my Steamrunner. Let me put it this way: With only slight modification to the weapons, I took on and destroyed a Soverign in 2:05 minutes, taking only light damage. But I went back and tried to pit a Steamrunner II against the Prometheus II. But where is my Prometheus??? Someone stole the Prometheus! I have tried everything. But nothing seems to work. I think that if I take the ship and put it in the Custom List as an Norway or Soverign, she might work. but I'll need to try it. AGAIN, IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS, PLEASE CONTACT ME @ ltwraith@critterpost.com. Thank you!

A Steamrunner took out a Sovereign without taking much damage? Sounds like it's a bit overpowered.

I haven't been able to install Hecate in a while...I installed a grip of other vessels though.

You can remedy the Prometheus' by modifying some of the CommonSettings files in notepad...increasing power output for the WarpX or enabling installation of starbase reactors.

Install ships directly into youre DefaultLoadOut and DefaultCore but be carefull.

Oh, and when you copy lines sometimes you need to chang some things in them ( even class ) to make ships appear in game. I would like to see you have DOMBB, Scimitar, Valdore and Warbird all as DN or BB for Roms.

I dotn know if this will help or not but I foudn that belive it or not a extra space at the end of the defultcore file coused the ships after that line to not show up just a idea

That could be usefull in few cases but there are more things that can make this happen.

For instance there must be perfect vertical order in both DefaultCore and DefaultLoadOut.txt
Like this :

10 FF ....
15 FF ...
15 DD ...
20 DD ...
20 CL ...
30 CA ...
35 CA ...
So the numbers and the class description must not be interrupted.

Then when you have more ships of same class, you must sort them in both .txt files in right order so they could work. Etc.

15 DD 1200 100 1250 7500 4050 3300 13000 Fed-Destroyer Defiant .....
15 DD 2400 0 2400 7500 20000 3700 20000 Fed-Destroyer2 Anomie

There can happen that some snip`s are named as

Fed-Prometheus Sovereign

This can cause dissapearance of some other installed ships with simmilar name Etc.

Fed-Anomie Anomie

Then it should be best to do as written above and sort ships that way.

Cool That would explain why I have had trouble adding the scimitar never got it to work. My big problem is lack of know how lol, but really is there a website or some sort of demo that well layout how this program looks into defaultloadout and default core. I been able to judge in most cases but the file plainly says every ship class has a min of stuff and a max of stuff that can be put on the ship. let say for example I wanted to incress teh shuttles when I make this change it defaults back to what it was (the change was made in defaultcore) do I need to also change that else where? From what I have been able to see there are at least 3 files the game looks at for a ship shipname, defaultcore, defaultloadout, and in some cases customloadout. Am I wrong on that?

CustomLoadOut works like this.

When playing game you can refit your ship to it`s max weapons,shields and other stuff. When you save that in refit menu with name like Scimitar 1 ,this version of ship will go to CustomLoadOut.txt

Also i can send you my DefaultLoadOut.txt and DefaultCore.txt with altered lines for some ships in compare with the lines that came with dawnloaded ship.

Go to SFC3files.com dawnload/utilities/tutorial and dawnload Decconis adding ship tutorial. It`s really good, but even though you can learn some things after you read that file if you want my txt files to see what they look like.

And one more thing.

For scimitar these are lines that make `im battleship.

This should work even with Warbird or Valdor placed as BB`s.

And one more thing. If you want to have a fleet of 3 scimitars you should save the game having scimitar as a battleship. Then change it`s description in Default`s to DN`s. Load game and you`ll have your BB you saved and the rest of scimitars will be DN`s so they can come to your fleet.

Nice isn`t it.

Well from models folder the most important for Defaults are gf file. Open one with Notepad and you`ll see why.

Thanks for the help. wow 3 scimtars. I will comapre notes when I get back to the compter that has sfc3 installed I have found a few guilds and what not but to be hoenst most of them are geared from people who do this alot to people that knows what is being said as for me I ran across a few mods and thought wow this is cool and after 3 hours of comapring and playing I finally got one to work only having it stop after adding another ship in and working yet agin for hours til they both work.

I found a guild just a few min ago done by a lord vader that explained alot about arcs on the ships.

Now as for the gf Ithink you said I will check that out. I seend the file in there I just never thought about opening it up. :rolleyes:

Thanks I might do that if I get stuck. I started a quest after your help thanks agin btw.
I think I have the adding ships and arcs nailed down I just had to tinker with them.

Now I am trying to figure one last thing out I downloaded a path I think it was the TNG patch that added alot of ships but the big thing I noticed is in the weapons.Gf I think it was called in the common settings there was listings for the starbase phasers. My qustions now is are these items in the game already? and if so how do I get it starbase warpcore, shields, phasers, ETC.. to show up in the game where I can put them on ships.

Ther is a file weaponitems.gf in folder assets/commonsettings.
You`ll find that weapons there and lines are like this :
[PrimaryItems\PHASER XIIIF]
Description = "PHASER XIIIF"
Cost = 3000
Mass = 500
Health = 60
Energy = 12.0
Damage = 11.0
Race = "F"
UnavailableForRefit = 1

You should just remove this last line "" UnavailableForRefit = 1"" and it will show up.
And in slot Race you can write "" ALL "" .
This so you could take scimitar with cutting beams, regenerating armor of borg and other weapons. I think that, no , I know that in this case even a large fleet with starbase would not be able to scratch you, while your ship is crippeling them.

One more thing you can change weapon attributes ( cost,mass,health,...) and you can make some weapons be used "only" by 2 or 3 races.

I have a question. WHY THE HELL DOENS'T MY SHIPS WORK??
I've recently downloaded the Nemesis sov. and every thing was Ok until I started to play on conquest campaign and every time I accepted a mission to attack a ship or defend, the ships weren.te simply there. I think i will give up douwnloading ships 'cause every time I add one something wrong happens to the game.
Can any one help me? I've done everything fine. followed the instructions but...This kind of problems has happend to the prometheus also
