XP Error

Have you installed the EF Patch 1.2 or do you have the Expansion pack? If all else fails just do an uninstall, reinstall. It usually is a cure all.

Actually, I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. And I have the 1.2 patch not the expansion.

Have you tried running it in compatability mode
for Windows 95, 98 or 2000

It Helps, it solved my problem.
When I quit my game my pc would freeze up and I'd have to cut the power.

Wait a minute people

sorry, buddy, it isnt anything to do with windows XP, provided you have a legitimte copy(i wont even ask), it should work without a problem. What that error is telling you, is that your video card is having problems drawing some of the 3dfx information it's being given. Whether it's a software or hardware error, i cant tell you that, cause i dont know, i also only know that you need to get a more updated driver set for your video card, or reinstall the drivers. If it still doesnt work, it's a hardware issue.

anything with G_ at the start usually means it's a video card issue.

also, compat mode isnt required because EF runs perfectly fine with XP (i have 4 different systems running EF with XP and the only problem is holomatch's brightness is too low, and cant be changed...)

Hope this helps.

Brightness...

The Brightness problem with XP in Holomatches can be fixed. I had the same problem.

yugi33 December 5th, 2002 05:54 PM

How do you get it to work with Windows XP? It just says (NOTE: This is for this and other Q3 games) "COuld not load OpenGL subsystem."

FishDS9 December 6th, 2002 05:16 PM

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your vid card. And make sure you have the latest XP service pack. Un install EF and the Xpansion pak and then reinstall it. Hopefully you will be ok. I had a similar problem with XP until I did the above.:D

How?

wolf359 December 9th, 2002 01:39 AM

the "Could not load OpenGL subsystem" error is because the graphics drivers supplied with XP don't support OpenGL. usually a simple graphics driver update will fix the problem

the HM brightness not being changeable is fixed by using the following commands

\r_ignorehwgamma 1
\r_overBrightBits 0

and can be reversed by simply changing to this

\r_ignorehwgamma 0
\r_overBrightBits 1

this should work on all q3 based games

however the colours can look slightly washed out when you do this

Raiden1803 January 1st, 2003 06:23 PM

what graphics card are you using, becuase i have XP to and mine works just fine.

acs12798 January 20th, 2003 12:05 PM

OK, heres the problem. When you use windows XP it install microsoft made generic drivers for your video card. Since microsoft uses is monopoly unfairly, it only installs directx libraries with those drivers because microsoft wants to kill opengl since its a competing technology to directx. SO all you have to do is go to your manufacters websitr and download drivers made by the company that made the graphics card. When you install there dirver yu will not only ge both a driectx and opengl drivers but you wil also get a performance boost since its drivers made specifically for your card.
