Help with EF1 Damage
KattFire
December 30th, 2008 03:01 AM
I was playing EF1, and realized much to my disgust, that the battles seemed NOTHING like the TV show. I would shoot a Klingon with a phaser, or even a phase-rifle, and he was still running around. I didn't like this one bit, so I thought to ramp up the damage on these babies. Having had previous experience with other Q3 games, I understood the process of modding to a certain extent. So I opened up the .pk3s and started poking around, noting how different it was from anything I'd done before.

I finally found the weapons.dat file, which as far as I could tell, had all the proporties that the weapons used. But there was nothing about damage on there! So I seached more, and found nothing. At first I thought that there was another file which had the ammo/projectile stats, which held the damage, but no such luck. Which leads me to ask, can I change the damage? Or am I stuck with three or four shots from the phase-rifle to take down a simple scavenger?

If it is possible, and you know where, could you point me in the right direction? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time and help,
KattFire

I'm not sure but I think the damage it set in the gamecode so you if you want to change the damage you need to do in the gamecode and recompile it.

Thanks, I'll check into that.

I downloaded the SP Source Code thinking it might give me some insight into the damage proporties, but alas I still found no indication as to how one might change it. Nothing indicated where I might find it. I'm stumped, honestly. I'm beginning to doubt myself, as well as the game.

Coding isn't easy. You need to know how to work with C++ for that, I think. Here's something you might find usefull:

Well, I can probably work around what I need, but could you point out where I could find what I'm looking for? Such as the files or folders I need to look for?

No idea. I've just looked in weapons.dat file and you're right; there's nothing there about damage. Maybe it's in one of the .dll files. If you wish, contact this guy:

He's currently working on a mod for this game that requires coding, so he should be able to help you. Good luck.
